Not to derail the thread, but how many people are old enough to know what the telephone number LA. 4-3761 means?   Or  something a bit newer, what Montreal 24 means?

 LA - phone exchange - can't remember what is was  (Larraine?)

24 is the postal station - we lived in Toronto 6

 Growing up our number was GL followed by 5 numbers.  Was it the initials of the telephone company central office, or even the community? 

PS It looks like that Beaumont may have a Saginaw?
