The 69 2+2 body is off

As some know, I purchased the 69 2+2 hardtop parts car from Johnny Ringo.    My main focus was the chassis, but I was also interested in the power windows, tinted glass, power door locks and floor shift column.     I harvested those goodies, as well as a number of other things, then it was time to get rid of the body.     As it was a bit cut-up from harvesting things like the console & bucket seat mounts, I just continued to cut up the rest of the body.

First photo is what I started with.   2nd - 4th is with the front clip & doors removed, and the roof cut off.   The body is finally gone in the last photo.   If you look close at the last photo, the rear section of the car is in the foreground, and the left and right sides are laying on their side of the car.   The sheetmetal has been dropped at a metal recyler here in Calgary.    Now the work starts cleaning up the chassis.

My 69 vert is an absolute Plain Jane.

Two people have now said I should find an old rusty 2+2 and do a tribute car.

We have seen a few come up in the last year but I think al leave all's well alone.

Cool to see the frame, it looks great !

Thanks for posting the picks, they are great for referencing.

The 69 2+2 body is off

I haven't posted much about this lately, as the winter has slowed progress.  After removing the body and doing an engine/transmission mockup to weld on the z-bar bracket, I did some cleanup on the chassis, then removed all the steering and suspension.  A buddy pointed out there were a number of dried bushings, etc, it's receiving all new bushings and steering pieces.

However there was quite a bit of dirt and sand in the chassis that could be seen through the various holes.  It was either wait until spring and run a garden hose through to remove it, or get creative.   Today we raised the rear of the frame substantially, and basically banged the frame to get the dirt to flow downhill to the large hole on the underside of the frame where the dirt entered.   Here's the results (I'm guessing the 2 piles equalled about 40 lbs):

Rear of the chassis raised.

wow, not a easy job. sand is better than dried up mud to get out I would think.

It came out fairly easily once we started banging.  There was a bit of everything in there (including some shelled peanuts), and if it would have been black topsoil it likely would have really held the moisture and rusted everything out.   I was going to run water through it to really clean it out, but I figure no sense adding any moisture at this point.

.....glad that the frame is usable. I wonder if a guy could shove a sewer pipe snake in there and just rotate and pound away and may break anything else lose in there ? You probably got most of it anyway. Wonder where the nuts come from ?.......maybe at the race track when it had a 427 in it ???

Can you give me/us a little history on the car? I know about most of the big blocks and this one is new to me.

What's your plan overall? How much of the original 2+2 will remain in whatever you're building? And what are you building?

Cheers!

This would have originally had a 350.    I wanted the 69 for the chassis, it'll end up under a 70 Parisienne I'm working on that has a bad chassis.  The 69 body has been taken to the metal recycler, the only things left are the dash, front & rear bumpers, and a handful of interior pieces.
