Wouldn't it have to be that way? Otherwise there would be no purpose in the low beam seal beams having 3 prongs.
I'm sure all those old 4 lamp round headlamp systems have 4 lights lit on high beam?
Low beam lamp has 3 prongs as it has 2 filaments inside, low beam and high beam, thus all 4 lamps are lit when on high beam, would serve no real purpose to light the low beams at the same time.
Now on more modern cars with halogen lamps with separate high beam and low beam it may be beneficial to install a relay so the low beams stay on with the high beams.
Well, I decided to return those Chinese Wagners. I thought it would be easy to find all glass lamps. Boy, was I wrong. Canadian Tire did have all glass in Sylvania, but I consider CT to be my competition at work, so I kept them as a last resort. NAPA was no help, when I arrived there to pick up their "glass" bulbs I had to point out to the counter guy that they were indeed a tin back which I had explained I didn't want.
I finally found GE lamps at a heavy duty truck parts supplier we deal with in Winnipeg. They even say assembled in the USA on them!

Not sure if they draw more or not. My guess is that yes they do. We have discussed this on the PY forum a bit. A lot of people have started to make up a forward harness for the relay system for them. I plan to use them on my 65 as well. I was told that the wires that go from one side to the next may be a bit short so you may have to extend them, but the people that have used this type of system have thought they were the cats meow.
Thanks for that link. I had thought I might make up a harness and still might, but that's a reasonable price for the harness, if it's good quality wire, that is.
I guess it would be simple enough for me to test and see how much they actually draw.

carl its not so much that they more which the do, but they draw more through the light switch which is not so good, just wire some relays i used two high low right above the horn relay, save melting the harness on the switch, lights are brighter too. i also replaced the stator coil in my alternator to boost it from 37 amps too 66, just a thought
