Photos of 62 Parisienne Ragtop Project (Or Parts Car)

Here's some pics of the car I got a month ago. Waiting for Friday to see if I can get registration. If I can, I'll be hunting for a parts car in the lower mainland of BC. If I can't get reg, it'll likely become someone else's parts car !!

That would be a complete shame for it to be a parts car. There must be a way...

So what is so difficult to getting a title? I'm guessing that we're really spoiled in Saskatchewan. Bill of sale or sign an avadavat and register as an antique and off to the races.

If you don't get the registration, it has to be government inspected. Once you start that, there's nothing too small to be overlooked. Everything has to be just so. My cars don't ever get to the point where everything is just so. I've known shops that wouldn't pass brakes unless they were over 80% shoe or pad remaining. I'm just not into that kind of adventure.

I'll keep him in mind. I'm on the island every three weeks or so. I travel back and forth between Richmond and Lake Cowichan.

Can you feel it, brothers and sisters !! The day, thus far, has been good to me. After a two hour adventure with the insurance office, notary public and back again, I now am the proud and REGISTERED owner of a 62 Parisienne ragtop. Even got a storage permit.
Now, with the number of parts I require to make this machine more interesting (and driveable) I have to decide, do I buy a few used parts, buy a parts car, or sell the car to someone else to finish. Hmmmm......
Doesn't really need many parts. Think I'll start by putting the stuff back on that I took off. Now at least, if somebody buys my 442 in the months ahead, I've got something else to throw my time into.

Best of the season to you all.

Yeehaw! That is great news. It was painful to think of your car as a parts car...

Nice Christmas present, even if it was late! I can't believe how rough you guys have it. About 10 years ago I dragged a SD455 Trans Am out of a field, total rust bucket dismantled pile of junk with a matching numbers engine. 10 minutes at the insurance office to drop off my bill of sale at 4 PM, come back the next morning please around 10 AM, here's your ownership, have a nice day, $15 please.... Manitoba may be cold but our registration stuff is hot!

Nice find in the field, my friend !!  $15 is a good price to pay, as well. I dropped over $215 before noon on this deal.....not that I'm complaining, or anything.... :)

I don't like the stories I hear of your registration though if you have a fender bender with your old car.  I have seen a few pictures of your car auctions to never be on the road again.

I am glad for you and agree with the others that it will be nice to see that car on the road again sometime.

Nice to feel the support. I'll start with the front bumper and headlight bezels. They're re-chromed and ready to go back on. The tail lights & rear bumper are also done, but I've got to scare up a left lens and a pair of rear bumper brackets. Looks like the lenses might be interchangeable from side to side. I don't see any wiring for the back up lights, but then I don't see any back up lights either, just a couple of delete plates and brackets. Not sure how a fresh rechromed bumper will look with old gammy delete plates, but heck, I'm not creating the queen's jewels !!

True, but if we get an appraisal the chances of that are a lot less because that issue only comes up when the car is a writeoff.

There is also a way around that. The car may be technically a writeoff, but the owner can negotiate with Manitoba Public Insurance to have the car fixed for a contract price, which would keep the title from being branded "unsalvagable" .

A storage permit in BC is just an insurance policy that covers the car when it's being stored. I got a one year comprehensive (fire, theft and vandalism) policy for $30 on the 62 Parisienne.

Sorry to confuse. I meant "storage policy", not "storage permit".  My brain is somewhat addled. Must be bed time....goodnight all.

Now the really tricky part. What are the odds I'm going to find a half decent, inexpensive red front and rear seat for a 62 rag-top close to where I live?
Yeah, I know, a real knee slapper. I saw a convertible rear seat frame / spring assembly on e-Bay for over a $1000 down south, but I'd buy another car long before I'd fork out that kind of loot. I'm just way too cheap !!
Last summer I sold an A-body convert rear seat needing work for $100. I'd settle for something like that. I know where there's a red Laurention split bench front seat in a 2 door hardtop. Doesn't have the chrome trim, but would work in a pinch if I could get it cheap.
The big stuff I probably have to find locally. The little bits can be shipped cheaply. Looks like it's almost time for wanted ads on this forum, CL, and maybe checking e-Bay from time to time.
I need to hook up a decent exhaust system to get the motor running and hear how it sounds. Don't want to buy new. May have to look for a 61-64 full size Chev or Pontiac parts car locally with a good exhaust.
I guess the fun begins about now.....:)
