Finally Got My Ride!!

Hi Folks,

My name is Kevin. I was able to locate my first true musclecar last week, a 1966 SD Beaumont!! I have been looking for the right car for a while now and wanted either a 66 or 67 Beaumont driver. I was lucky enough to find it on Canadian Poncho and was able to finally get my dream car. Now the long wait for the hauler to get her to Grande Prairie, Alberta (painful having to wait). The car was originally a 283 powerglide true SD car as the previous owner proved with GM paperwork. Not sure what the original color was but now it is Madeira Maroon. She had a frame off restoration a few years back to remove some serious rot and now houses a 454 and a Keisler 5 speed and a new black interior. I am in the process of hunting down some of the final trim pieces to get her completed. Ordered V8 logos and fender louvers from Dales, ordered the belt line trim from DT Stainless (who also happened to have a horn cap), and just ordered a steering wheel  with the chrome horn ring off of EBAY. I want to also thank Roy (the previous owner) who completed most of the rest himself for doing a great job

I have a few questions for you guys I hope you can help with. I want to have my deluxe seatbelts (originally red) refinished to black with new webbing and have the plastic part of the buckle painted. Anybody recommend a good place to have this done (preferably on this side of the border).

Also looking for the holy grail...need the rocker panel trim as the car currently has the 67 ribbed trim on it.  Is the trim from a 1966 Malibu the same... I can't find close up pictures that would answer this for me. If anybody has a piece or two please let me know. The car is a driver but I would still like to get the right trim to make it correct.  I tried Tin Man already and he is cleaned out right now.

I look forward to being a part of this club as I have visited the site regularly but wanted to get a car before I became a member. Finally got my car!!smile

RE: Fianlly Got My Ride!!

Hey welcome aboard , I seen your car on Craigs List for sale locally and thought it was a sharp looking car , congrats. My friend Chris also lives in Grand Prairie and he was out this way in Sept to buy his old 68 Beaumont back from the guy he sold it to. You might know him or seen him around. I put the link below as well on it. Great group here so jump on in and get your feet wet!

DT could do the rockers as well for sure. I would have loved to order them but gotta eat to!! I might have to roll with the Chevelle trim until I can afford the rest. Just have to wait for the snow to melt now!!

Just under $200.00 U.S. and they took around 6 weeks for 2 fronts. I did not need my buckles painted. They sewed the original Canadian-only tags back on. They sent me webbing samples first of all.

Congrats on the car, and welcome aboard (from another 66 SD owner)! That is a great looking car.

Those belts are the "deluxe" version, which I think could be had on more than just the Beaumonts in '66. Therefore you might be able to find real black ones? Congrats on finding the horn button, which are not an easy find. (You could probably sell the current wheel on the site here to recoup some costs.)
As a side note, someone is now making the Beaumont interior door panels. (Those look to be Chevelle possibly?)
Keep them photo's coming...

For reference, this is what my original (and very saggy) interior door panel looks like...door panel.jpgIf you want to see some pic's of an excellent example of the 66 SD trim, check out the feature car from a couple of years back:  http://canadianponcho.activeboard.com/t35613240/may-2010-feature-car/

Congrats again!

Thanks for the door panel pic. This will help me keep developing my car to a more correct level.   Do you have any close up pics of the rocker panel and belt line trim...can't find a good close up shop to see the detail.

Hi Kevin & welcome to the S/D club...took me 10 years to find my '67 - 396.

Re...the rocker panel trim, no expert here, but I will try my best to point out some differences, only IMO from memory (without checking):
- my original paint Danubee blue 1966 Beaumont Custom = no ribs, just flat profile
- my parted out 1966 Chevelle = 8 ribs
- my NOS 1967 Beaumont S/D trim in GM packaging = 6 ribs (purchased last year / parts "barn loft" find (along with a drivers NOS rear 1/4 panel)
(also been told, 1967 Chevelle S/S trim in the low sections is a different paint color / Beaumont ones match the rear tail light housing/die cast paint code)
