Newbie from New Zealand

Hi there.

I'm Cal from NZ. Have a US 51 Chieftain just going through the process of getting it legally on the road after a 2 and a half year build on the mechanical side.

Found this site while looking for Canadian spec valve covers - the ones that fit SBCs. So will post a wanted ad up now too. But looks like a great collection of pontiacs in one place!

Here's a slightly outdated shot of my car. It's got a bit of everything thrown in and will be a daily driver. SBC, S3 Jag front end so discs and powersteer, holden diff on reset pontiac leaves. So not one for the purists sorry but the plan is to have something I can get parts for locally, and quickly. It's the only 51 chief I know of in the country.

Anyway, thanks for letting me invade your forum.

Cheers.

Cal

People are either going to understand the reasons or hate it! I'm okay with either. But it handles, stops, and the motor is a cheap 300hp which makes it a little more fun than the very sick 6 (more like 4 and a half!) that got pulled out of it. Really looking forward to driving it.

Thanks for the welcome.
Will get some new pics shortly. Waiting for the car to come back from the certifiers. In NZ we have a group called the Low Volume Vehicle Technical Association (LVVTA) who operate a certification system for heavily modified or scratch built (inc hot rods) cars. This certification means we can run cars outside of the normal regs but they have to be of a high standard.

In the meantime, here's a couple more random shots. Front shot and the motor setup although this engine didn't behave, so ended up swapping another in. But it looks the same anyway...

Cheers.

Thanks a lot.
There's been a few headaches, that's for sure! All will be forgotten soon I hope as the miles go on the clock.

And there's still a good list of course. Body is real solid but is about 3 shades of white! Have skirts, thinking about a visor. Considering airbags. Although the height currently is sitting on stock Jag springs, so potential to drop another inch or two with lower ones at the front. And floor would need some 'massaging' to drop the back either way.

Thanks for the welcomes.

Yep, heaps of muscle cars, hot rods and street machines in NZ, per capita anyway. We have an interesting mix as there's a real classic american car following, but we had a lot of British and Australian (GM Holden and Ford) stuff sold new, as well as things like AMC Ramblers assembled here.

The Beach Hop is coming up in a couple of weeks and that is massive, pre 75 cars and pretty much takes over a whole town and then some.

And supposed to have our drag racing nationals this weekend but the remains of a tropical cyclone are making their way down the country. Hmm.

We'll see how we go. It may settle a little more anyway.
Headers were a pain. Think these are 70s camaro or something. Set number 4 or 5 that we tried. Block huggers outlet dumped straight on top of steering rack.

Got the car all signed off today to legally be on the road. Still a couple of minor things to iron out as there always are I guess.
