Are stock front springs supposed to be really long?

Finally getting around to upgrading my front brakes with a 2 inch dropped spindle disc setup.  I'm going back to a stock spring height, and replacing the current drop springs.  My mechanic is having a heck of a time getting the stock ones back in.  Is this supposed to be an unruly job?

How much does he have them compressed?

My mechanic removes the inside of the a arms...    he installed two new BB springs in my 71 Ventura in less than a hour

He had to employ a different compressor, and got it in. The first compressor he tried, the pair that works on the outside, was hanging on for dear life. Undoing the inner A arm is a good tip though. I'll try that if I have to make height adjustments. Thanks!

Yes, the front springs on X frame cars are really long, and harder than most to install.

By the way, for anybody that wants to raise the ride height of one of these cars, you can usually get away with just buying new front springs. The old front springs will usually work fine in the rear suspension. The front and rear springs are the same except the fronts are stronger, so even if they're sagged a bit they're usually more than strong enough to raise the ride height in the rear. You might even have to cut a little off to get the ride height you want.
Of course this only works for springs that are just sagged from age. If they've already been cut down or heated with a torch,,, you'll have to buy four new springs.

Yeah, we raised the front end a little leaving the starting line. biggrin

This year we've got the bigger aluminum engine, so we built a set of wheelie bars. I can't wait for the track to open!
