Are Beaumonts undervalued relative to Chevelles?

Curious what the consensus is on this do you think Beaumonts undervalued relative to Chevelles seems to me they don't bring in the same money as a Chevelle would.

Have to believe there is a definite difference in price between the two. The difference may also be wider on some models than others. Don't believe the difference is as large on the BBs.

Please show me all these Beaumonts for cheap!  I'll take the Beaumont version of the $15,000 equivalent Chevelle for $7500, please! wink

I'll take a '68 or '69... not fussy.

Just pokin' fun, Carl!  biggrin

no problem    The 15 g Chevelle is only 1/2 as rotten as the 7.5 Beau   lol

Sad to say, it seems to be true. There are many who prefer the plain look of the Chevelle over the sporty look of the Beaumont. Just the way it is, and it's reflected in the price it seems.

If Beaumonts were built in the USA they would be 50% more than the Chevelles.

Might be true...for now,.......but with sites like Canadian Poncho, the appeal for Beaumonts increases as more people (especially Americans) are aware of them. Just give it time.

true - over the last 15 years beaumonts have definately increased in value due to demand/interest

I would prefer a beaumont over a chevelle any day of the week and would also gladly pay a corresponding value.  Although I am totally bias.

Bought my first Canadian built car in 2001.  Although I've never owned a Beaumont, I think my experience with Nova's and Acadian's has proven they are undervalued.  I was very proud to own my 63 Acadian Beaumont Sport Deluxe and with an estimated total production of 200 units I could not afford a US built car that rare.

This car did not reach it's true value until the US dealer I sold it to resold it to a Canadian.  After talking to many many people over the years, I found a high number of people that were interested in the history of the cars but considered it to be a bit of an oddity or even ugly duckling when compared to the US models.

US collectors seem to look at it as if the car was first built in the US and then the Canadians changed it, not for the better.

Agreed as well.  I have yet to find a nice original Beaumont to put in my driveway, so lower prices are a plus!  The rarity makes them hard to find, but at least once one is found I won't be paying Chevelle prices for it.

While I appreciate our friends to the south waving the CP banner with imported Beaumonts, etc., I will admit that I'm selfishly wanting to keep as many in Canada as possible.  Much the same as I'm sure they feel when we Canadians pluck nice rust free examples of American iron from their southern states!

The US has such a large population compared to Canada, it wouldn't take long to dry up our supply of Beaumonts north of the border should the ever become extremely popular down there...

In 1973 or 4, I bought my first Chevelle - 1965 / 2 door post, 6 cyl. with original Danube (dark blue) paint....drove it 3 yrs.
In 1976, I bought my first Beaumont - 1967 / 2 door hard top, 6 cyl. with original light green paint & 44,000 miles...following year, A/O brazed on door skin bottoms, made 19g. patched for the front fenders & quarter panel bottoms & painted car in our implement garage...drove vehicle 6 yrs. trouble free...even picked up our new born at Victoria Hospital, early 1980's.

In 1980 - my work sent me down to Ohio for Industrial Engineer corporate training.
- with a company vehicle, I often drove around the city (in spare time)...looking for a Beaumont (1st) and S/S Chevelle (2nd)
After 3 weeks, I personally & finally realized, Beaumont's were 100x more rare...none I could find.
- did see a parked '67- 396 S/S (original marina blue paint) at a steel mill / so left my contact info...but no contact, followed
- just maybe a Canadian only model...while I already had 3 Beau. coupes / 2 stored upstairs in the family barn, driving other
So I came home, searching & buying even more 1966-67 Beaumont's...for me, easier to find...back then in S/W Ontario.

Probably around 1976, I found a very straight 1966 Beaumont show car in London, ON. with $7,000 worth of body work.
- this medium-dark blue hardtop coupe, was even in the London Auto-Rama spring show, for a few years straight
I asked the owner to pop the trunk, and to my utmost horror:
Both sheet metal trunk corners were fully smeared with only black roofing tar...$7,000 worth of some garbage body work, I could clearly see...(thanks to Box Auto Body...LOL).
- now granted, no repop sheet metal panels, for a few decades...BUT REALLY
And BTW - many Beaumont's 30-40 years ago...were ruined with "Cross Canada" half quarters.
- they came relatively in a straight profile to fit a nicely curved 1/4 panel...with a wheel arch, that was trimmed very short on the inside bottom
- old 1/4's just a night mare to use (garbage panels)
- in old days / never seen a completed car that I couldn't see body work problems from 20 ft. away
- never a straight vehicle side, once bad repro-tin installed...many Beaumont's were technically ruined and drastically DEVALUED, decades ago

In 1984 - my wife and I drove our 1967 Beaumont coupe to GM plant (Warren MI. ?)..for the annual NCOA meet.
- I had already stopped driving this car a few years earlier and knew the radiator was really soft...(have no fear)
- so I put a trip permit on the faded green hardtop (one weekend)...and loosed off the radiator cap, to avoid overheating
Once parked at the National Chevelle meet, my old-worn 1967 Beaumont had more visitors around it, than many Chevelle show cars.
- luckily my weak rad held up, and my plain-Jane Beaumont was driven into a pack barn...until it was sold 20 years later

Are Beaumont's undervalued relative to Chevelles ?
^^^^ Many can be...but the 2 door rare S/D Beaumont's with a perfectionist/quality restoration, will yield top $$.
- Sport Deluxe from between $40 to ~ 70K$ (sometimes)...depending on non-or-exact number match drivetrain, options, etc...and well documented

- "Sport Deluxe" 396 B/B is always a premium over "Custom" 283/327...350 hp takes 325 hp some

- Muncie 4 speed premium over 2-3 auto...buckets better than bench seat...12 bolt wins over 10...factory tach. nice and also bumps on hood &/or factory disc brakes (all help)

But not many, fall into this category, due to not living in the Southern rust free States (early on)...fixing rust, brings down the price, on many examples.

Hi Guys,

Got to drive my 66 Beaumont for the first time today....to a shop to be inspected as I bought it out of province. Awesome drive and probably lucky I didn't get a stunting ticket while I am still figuring out the clutch (oops!!)

Like most of you, the appeal for a Canadian only car was the draw for me but I admit I was looking at Chevelle's as well when I bought the Beaumont. Most of the nice clean Chevelles I was looking at were south of the border and when factoring the extra costs associated with traveling to inspect, shipping, exchange and duty the price difference was getting higher but I don't think they were twice as much. But as already said in previous replies I am comparing big block 4 speed cars to an equivalant SD. The only thing that those Chevelle boys have over us is the ease of finding parts. I wish the aftermarket had more products to make it easier and affordable to replace weathered components but that is the downfall of limited production vehicles I guess.

My two cents....

Kevin

Looks like my suspicions were correct they are undervalued. Kinda hard to figure out why, its essentially the same car as a Chevelle and more rare. The only difference my 1969 Beaumont had was a GTO dash and different grill & taillights as far as I could tell. Oh well it is what it is I guess, an interesting piece that is uniquely Canadian.

How do you guys feel about Australian Fords and such? Possibly good looking... definately rare... but they don't appeal to me as much as the north american cars. Perhaps similar views of our Canadian Beaumonts? If I'm buying or keeping a Beaumont, I'm good with that. If/when it comes time to sell... not so good LOL.
Having said all of that, I do believe Beaumonts are a nicer car. (Although I'm not thrilled that they share a name with a kitchen appliance line.)
