I will have to dig out my "Chevy 6" book to verify. It seems to me that dipsticks changed when the dipstick tube location & angle changed for 1968. Another consideration is whether you have the forward sump pickup pan (used on early Chevy II / Acadian). I have to find my reference stuff first, then I can post what I find.

The tube sticking out of the 6cyl 4dr car I just got is 7 1/4 long from block to top of tube, dipstick is 14 3/4 to the top seal and 17 1/2 overall. It's also at the back of the block on right side. Dont know if thats stock?

So to summarize, early (1962-1967) Acadian 6 cylinder engines are like early Acadian V8's, with a front sump so the dipstick tube has to be at the front of the engine for the dipstick to read accurately. Leftys pictures would confirm this.
Early V8 Acadians had the dipstick tube in the oil pan, rather than the block.
Thanks

There were 3 different positions on these engines.
Front sump cars(nova) had them at the front near the fuel pump, like the one on Leftys car
Fullsize X frame cars were centrally located.
Trucks, Chevelles and post 1965 fullsize all had them further back near the starter braket.
Tony, yours has been drilled out by someone, and put in the wrong place, it should look more like Leftys
I thought i had even seen them futher forward closer to the distributor, but i may be wrong on that 4th postion.
All the engine blocks will fit in all the cars and trucks, just the oil pan sump and oil pick up tubes are different. so the stick will not go down to the lowest postion.
If you are just trying to set the adjustment, then drain the oil, fill it with 4 1/2 L and then make a new mark on the stick.
I did that with my winter car for engine # 1 and it lasted for years.
