65 Custom Sport HT

I am looking at getting a 65 CS HT project. It is 99% complete but needs rust repair in the floors and possibly trunk pan.Anyone know what a fairly solid project car is going for now days.I know I can get a good solid one for around 15 or so.

15 thou would be a real, real nice one.
check recent posts on here - there have been a few 65s from kijiji ( ON ) for well less than 15 thou.

Very good as I found one white spot in the trunk. This car is red all over and I mean you cant find any colour anywhere. What would I look for to confirm this is a 400? This thing is rough, old gas, body work aging bad, dirty inside, Thing is I drove 6 hrs to get it so Pontiac fever may have bit me in the ass this time.Saving another CS!

.....well I can tell you that those heads are not drilled for brackets, so they are no 400, just old 283 or 327's maybe. Easiest is take a look at the flywheel. Take the cover off and look for a big weight attached to the flywheel. 400's were externally balanced just like a 454, so they had a weight on the flywheel. All other small blocks were internally balanced so no weights.  the 400 used a 14" diameter flywheel, all other small blocks used 12 3/4" flywheel

Same for the dampner on the front of the engine,  just have a look on the rear of the inside shell,

You'll see that the is a counter weight built into it.

"Fuelie" or "F.I." heads, likely from a mid 60's 327 with 1.94" intake valves. Good heads as Johnny says but unless they have the holes drilled in them to match the 400, he is correct that it's not a 400 under there.

I know heads can mix with different engines.400 would have a big harmonic balancer.Paperwork says 400 small block was put in the car.Plus I know the 400 is hard to keep cool so I was looking for a large rad,This thing has an electric fan outside in front of the rad.Saying that it looks like the mechanial fan is not on right.Looks backwards,

Well,I did get it running.I have a Small Block book that says this is a 400,by the three frost plugs on the block, also double bump heads. Its put together right as far as I am concerned.Runs strong too.The car is not as bad as I thought.Pics later,

The cowl tag only says V8. However, if you check the fuel line from the tank and it's 3/'8", that would tell you either a 327 or 409 on this car.
