Calling out to the PowerGlide Guru's ....


Hey Guys,

Having a little trouble with the PG that I am putting into the 61. Its an aluminum PG from a 72 Nova mated to a 350. I had to pull the range selector out that was in it because it was the B&M solid one with nothing for the kickdown. When I removed this , the rooster comb and park lock actuator came out as well. Figured it would be easy enough to put back it but I am a little stumped by it (I do have the PG guide and am still stumped).

When I seat the rooster comb/park lock actuator where it looks like they should go and slide the range select shaft through, I figure I should be able to move it the full range(have the detent roller spring off) of the select shaft. However I can only move it about 35% through the range before the park lock actuator bottoms out.

Here are a couple of pics to illustrate. ...  I know I am doing something wrong just not sure what it is. cry

If anyone is interested the Solution was: 

"The Rear Planet has notches around its diameter for the Park Paw to engage into once its lined up.
As you move the Shift Lever into the Park Position, rotate the Output Shaft in order to rotate the Planet thus allowing the Park Paw to line up with one of the notches.
The hole in the Guide become bigger, of coarse, once the Park Paw swings into one of the notches."
 
Basically all I had to do was move the planet to get the park lock actuator to drop into place. I was fortunate to find a rebuilt power glide race trans for sale on KIJIJI where in the add, Len from Chilliwack indicated he was a trans builder of 37 years. I emailed him and just asked him the same questions I had here and he was more than willing to help. A couple of back and forth emails and I was able to get everything worked out. He even told me that if the trans had of been out of the car I could have brought it out to him and he would have been more than happy to help free of charge.
 
Just thought I would share the solution and the feel good story to go with it.
