283 2 Barrel Rochester Idle Speed???

I've just installed a vintage 70's era Sun Super Tach II, so now I can adjust the idle with some degree of accuracy.  Any suggestions on what I should set it at?

Thanks!

I've seen specs as low as 450 RPM in gear, but that takes a well tuned engine in good condition to run smoothly that low.
Most seem happy around 600 assuming a stock cam. The lower the better if it doesn't hesitate or stall when accelerating, much easier on the driveline when putting it in gear, assuming it's an automatic. It takes some tuning skill to get a smooth, no hesitation, low idle but well worth the bother if you are so inclined!!

Thanks
Randy

I just set a glass of water on the fender, and set the idle down, until the water in the glass stops jiggling  biggrinwink
