Installing Big Block sway bar

One of our best friend/members sold me a almost new gorgeous  Spohn 1 inch rear sway bar

He sent the bar, and bolt on goodies (well packaged)

I Googled and found dimensions for 66 GM bar install

I drilled 4holes all the way through and slid up in place

because of curve, the bar is nice and snug at front and a little gap at rear  confuse

I didn't understand his directions on shimming hmm  but the light came on !!  biggrin

I have to shim it, so it does not pull in and put pressure on trailing arms

Going straight ahead .....  the sway bar does not need to be pulling or pushing on the trailing arms

right?  wink

in photos I have not set car down and shimmed   The rear end is hanging down in the last photo

Hi Carl; I'd strongly suggest boxing those lower control arms, and putting the bolts through a tube so you donât collapse the arms when you tighten them up. It won't take much to crack an arm in normal use. Ask me how I know. .....

Thank you

I have the grade 8 bolts through both sides, with the stainless spacers and shims to prevent squish

With only 400 HP and 4:10 gear  and skinny tires

shouldn't hurt anything  right?

I just did the same install on the chassis going under my 70 Parisienne.  It was a stock diameter sway bar, but same concept.  On mine, and according to the assembly manual, the front bolts are only through the inside wall of the control arm, not all the way through like the rear bolt.  I made my hollow spacers out of black pipe.

I wonder about boxing the rear control arms, as you need access to the nut that holds rear springs in place.

I boxed the whole thing and ran 2 tubes. Made it nice and solid. That was after cracking one completely.
