It doesn't say the scale on the box - but looks to be same size as the promo cars. In fact, it looks exactly like the promo cars except of course the wind-up mechanism and box is different.

Sweet model but i would be tempted to paint all the chrome. Even though that would effect the value, if you ever resold it. I never knew AMT made friction toys, i thought they only made plastic models to assemble. I have lost track of all the countless AMT models i built during my youth and teen years. AMT was always a quality product.

Just to be clear, I don't have a horse in this race. It's Dave's model car.
I was just adding my 2 cents worth because I've been involved in the model car hobby for many years.
Just wanted everybody to know the info on those friction toys, in that they are based off the promotional model that would have been given away by Chevy dealers, which were different than a model kit that you would put together.
The friction models were aimed at the toy market, meant to be played with rather than to be displayed. As such, they had those little friction motors driving the front wheels whereas a promo model would have had a moulded plastic plate to resemble the bottom of an engine.
Another difference is that a promo model would have been painted an authentic Chevy colour, whereas the friction model was just moulded in colour, not matching anything offered by the factory.
Although they don't tend to hold the value of a promo model, I think they are probably more rare to find in mint condition since they would more likely have been played with and thus destroyed. Also the box in good condition is a rarity.
IMHO, it is worth what Dave is asking for it, but value is dependent on what somebody is willing to pay for it.
