All these cars will soon be gone

It seems like over 4000 cars will be crushed soon. In the States. Check this out     http://www.oldcarsweekly.com/blogs/under-the-hood/last-chance-4000-old-cars-east-troy-crushed-winter-2014

Sad reality is that yards like this are an environmental disaster and nothing can be kept forever.

Very true. I once drove close to a tire dump fire at St Basile-le-Grand, Quebec, in 1988 (wonder if anyone remembers this) and from several kilometers away the smell was awful. The toxic from the tires ... imagine what else there is in these cars should they go up in flames.

But seeing them go is also sad.

I am surprised that some of those cars are still there and not taken away by some old car lovers. Like the 62 Chev two door coupe ( post ) and the 58 Buick two door hardtop. Sad indeed but as was mentioned before the sign of the times.

Yes it is the reality of life in 2014. There are so MANY old car hoards all over the USA & Canada im very surprised that the governments and eco geek lobbyists havent demanded they all be removed.
I think of my youth, going with my Grandfather to the wreckers. Was a real treat for me when i was a 10-12 yrs old. My friends were envious of me that i got to hang out in a real garage where there were real hot rods.
I cant think of any pre teen or teenage kid now who wouldn't consider that a kind of torture.
Carl you are so right!
The old car hobby is just that.....OLD and DYING.
On the other hand, maybe its time to scrap all the metal thats laying around in N America. Thats gotta be good for the enviroment?

Two things:

1) Young kids and wrecking yards today - My son crashed our old Buick a couple years back and as a life lesson I told him he had to repair it himself, to avoid reporting to insurer. I took him to the wrecking yard and we went to get a hood and grille. He absolutely loved it and I was shocked. I don't know if he was impressed by the old man being able to first find the stuff we needed or actually take it off the cars there, we had to harvest from two, or if he just loved seeing all the history that was there.

2) Dying Hobby - I was at our last local cruise of the season this year and for some reason it really struck me. There were a lot of people in wheel chairs and lots with walkers and canes. When they were drawing door prizes and 50/50 I though I was going to die waiting on the elderly folks coming up to collect their upholstery cleaner and polish and $139 bucks, I tell you it was painful to be there seeing these grey haired slow moving cranky folks. I doubt that may will make it through the winter.

I noticed a 68 Toronado atop a car, front end missing. Someone got a 455 engine for sure.
