export CKD pontiac paint colours.

Hi all, was trawling through posts on colour codes but one Answer I can't seem to find. The full size pontiac parisienne export cars sent to the australian market (where I am, as an example) were based on chevrolet platforms. Chassis, driveline dashes etc. would the paint codes be chevrolet or pontiac colours? or were they the same in 1965? Thanks for your help. regards, phill.

Well here in Canada the Pontiac and Chevrolet use the same paint codes. I can not see why they would change anything for export. But you never know. Any one chime in ?

From what I'm finding is the codes are different from Australia and North America...and the names are also different.

If they are the same, one would need a cross reference chart between the two....couldn't find such a reference.

Possibly rather than cross referencing the factory code/paint name, the aftermarket replacement paints (e.g.-Ditzer,Dupont) may be the same code/name

Holden paint reference (year selection located at bottom of page) - http://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/colour_codes_gmh_A-L.htm

North American GM - http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?year=1968&manuf=GM&model=Chevrolet&con=moy&rows=50

 This helps the search.

"Artesian Turquoise" is the 1965 Chevrolet paint (K) name used both in North America and in Australia for that colour.

Holden called the colour for their Pontiac "Reef Turquoise"  which is the same code (K)

The same name "Reef Turquoise" is used in the American Pontiac (K)

Both North American Chevrolet and Pontiac, and the Aussie Chevrolets and Pontiacs  use the same Dupont number  for the paint... 4628L, 181-97217

So  it looks like all the Chevrolets and Pontiacs on both sides of the pond are identical in paint match...at least for this one.

My '65 Pontiac is artesian turquoise, code K. i believe both reef and artesian are same turquoise. What I found to be a readily available match is 1981 Honda Accord believe it or not.

My car is silver mink (code 587-1704). To the best of my knowledge, the only other car in the GM world with that colour option was the original Holden Monaro (HK model) of 1968-71. I've always assumed that Pontiacs exported CKD to Australia were painted at the Australian assembly plant, in Holden colours.

Another issue is that the formula for the original paint code won't produce the desired colour, because modern tints are stronger. Can anyone confirm this, or is this a paintshop fiction to excuse a poor colour match?

I would love to find photos of what a CKD Pontiac looked like for shipping. Just how disassembled where they? Where they shipped in a giant box with a photo of the assembled car on the front with "Skill Level 3" printed on them? Were all the parts on a giant sprue that you had to trim away with a big knife? Did you have to scrape away the plating where the cement must go?

Seriously though I'd be interested in knowing just how knocked down these cars were.

Here's an article that gives a little more insight into the CKD cars once in Australia.
