Raj, did you just buy this Canadian 70 Bel Air? Man you really are a full size Chevy guy. How many do you have? Here is my full size Chevy. Cheers. George.

Interesting how the Bel Air's only have the 4 tail lights in 68 & 70.  Not sure about 69.

Unfortunately not mine. I had a few '69 Bel air 2-door sedan cars, including the red one I found for my buddy from the original owner. $50.00 (not $500.00) was the purchase price for this perfectly good running machine, original 327 and glide. The '70 he bought '72 and all other cars in the garage are his including the '61 black on red factory 4 speed car 348 he bought in '62.

Cool '75 clam shell, owned a few of these as well, if it wasn't for the darn rear door or glass quitting I would of kept this solid '71 kingswood 402 car I had.

Wow is that an interesting wagon or what. The engine decal says 400, yet it is a big block 402 (396 punched out). Raj, any story on that. Why would the motor say 400 and not 402? Any thoughts on the matter. My guess is that someone changed the top of the air cleaner, off a small block 400. Hopefully no one demo derbyed that wagon. Cheers. George.

The 402 was marketed as 400, except in Chevelle SS396. You could even get a Malibu 400 which was a 402 big block.

Below is a picture I created out of the Bel Air 4-door sedan brochure picture. It is an exact depiction of a car I saw in Hamilton, Ontario in the early 1970s. It must have been very early 1970s because the car was rolling on H70-15 redline tires, something that was discontinued after 1970. Reproduction redline tires didn't come out until 1984.

Anyway, the 1970 Bel Air Sport Coupe I saw on Main Street in Hamilton while riding in our 1970 Biscayne was a Misty Turquoise, high-performance musclecar. It had a dual exhaust 390-horse LS5 454, 15x6 factory Rally Wheels with H70-15 redline tires, plus I saw an F41 rear stabilizer bar on it. Truly one-of-a-kind. I never saw the car after 1973.

Here's a link to both the Canadian & U.S. versions of the full-size 1970 Chevrolets. Check out the appalling picture of the Bel Air Sport Coupe in the Canadian brochure. There were no photo editing computers back then, just an airbrush and a tight deadline.

I believe that poor brochure picture was a hack airbrush job on a 1969 Caprice coupe taken at the GM Styling Studio. The exclusive Canadian Bel Air coupes continued to have crappy airbrushed brochure pictures for several more years. The rooflines were always funny looking because the pictures were based on different bodystyles than the actual cars were. Actually the 73 Biscayne sedan in the brochure was a crappy airbrush job of an Impala Custom Coupe.

I wish Chevrolet would of held on to the SS package for the big chevy just one more year, a LS-5 or LS-6, 4 speed SS 454 with buckets and console and wood rim wheel,  :(

That is what makes the 1970 Canadian Pontiac 2+2s so special; they outlived the buckets & SS option on the Impalas. The irony is that John Delorean took over Chevrolet for 1970 and he set about to simplify the option lists. It seems for all the options that they had been offering, they weren't making additional profit for all their trouble.

BTW, Chevy did offer the cushion 3-spoke Sport Wheel on the Big cars in 1970 but I have only heard of 2 cars with it.

That must have been really confusing to everyone, considering the 400 small block was being offered the very same time. What brain surgeon at GM came up with that idea. George.

And the scary thing about it, I had a '72 caprice sedan with a 400 small block and it blew away the 402 wagon and friends 454 '73 Lagunaconfuse I pulled the torquey low mileage 400 c(4 bolt main) from the '72 got and got a 700r4  auto freshened up for my gobi beige '70 this summer biggrin

PS the '71 402 wagon went to a collector who restored it as a tow

rig for his Chevelle and corvette for shows. I bought it sight unseen 300 miles away

being told it was a '70 kingswood no. I was not happy to say the least and the guy

sold the '71 to me for $800.00. Pretty loaded wagon though.
