58 Pathfinder Safari Resurrection

Hello guys and gals. I'm new to this group, but no stranger to "rustoration" being as I reside in beautiful (and salty) Nova Scotia. I've just acquired a 58 Pathfinder Safari that is in pretty rough shape. WARNING!! These pictures may be disturbing to some. Viewer discretion is advised. I've spent some time scouring this forum and have gleaned quite a bit of info but still have some questions. Does anyone know the actual production numbers for the left hand drive version as well as the right hand drive. The previous owner toted this car as one of only twelve L.H.D. produced while there were thousands of R.H.D. produced and shipped to Australia. I took that with a grain of salt or two.(Yeah, more salt) I may have to set it on a late model frame as the X union on mine is pretty seedy, but that would simplify updating brakes and steering. The glass is good except for the windshield, and the trim is all there, tho it may need a little tinkering. Bumpers are history as well as the floor, rear wheel wells and inner and outer rockers. Did I mention, I love a challenge??

Welcome to CP. If a car can look that good with that much rust you know it's worth the challenge nod.gif They have beautiful lines.

.....a 2 door 58 wagon is rare to see . But I think you got the figures mixed up, I'd believe 12 right hand drive cars made and shipped to down under and there were many of the left hand like this one is. Pathfinder was the bottom of the line model , this car came with a 6 cyl (71) 2 door wagon (91). , gunmetal interior (802) Exact production numbers I don't know.

Welcome from Barrie Ontario. You have quite a challenge there and some really interesting cars in the background. The Olds with the turbine wheels and the 38 Dodge 4dr. These are also cool rides.

Hey I've eyeballed that one from time to time as I've driven by exit 8 and always wondered what the story was with that car.

Looking forward to reading about your project on here as you move it along.  Best of luck with it!

Do some research....that ol girl would be a great candidate for a newer frame and complete floor pan swap...like an early 90's Roadmaster wagon!  The you can whittle in the rest.

Buddy here did a 60 Impala with the Roadmaster chassis and drivetrain...awesome swap!

Thanks Magician40. The Dodge is going on a Dakota 2wd frame and the Olds Delta 88 Custom's owner is like a "dog in a manger", can't eat the hay and won't let anybody else at it either, so there she rots. Damn shame, I like those big cruisers. I just freshened up the paint work on a 67 Parisienne 2+2 some of you may recognise.Phone sept 14 137.jpg

Yeah rabbit64cs, I think that's the route I'll take. Just have to figure out which frame will work with the least amount of modification and the best final product. I'll add Roadmaster wagon to my list of possible candidates. Thanks.

Tony, a hardy welcome aboard from Milton, Ontario, Canada. That is such a rare piece of Canadian automotive history. A two door wagon, is that ever going to be sweet when you are done with it. Tony, please keep the Pontiac brotherhood informed and updated on your progress on your fine 58 Poncho. Good luck with the build. Cheers. George.

....that's a sharp 2+2. Those hubcaps are the nicest ones Pontiac ever made my opinion. I was lucky to find a set at this years Super Run Swap Meet in Saskatoon . If doing a frame swap something to keep in mind searching for a donor is that the 58 wheelbase is 117.5 " , 59-64 Xframe cars were 119".

Welcome to the site from Salty Burlington.

Looks like the Old's hasn't turned a wheel since 2012, shame.
