My Wifes project - 64 Parisienne Safari 327

My Wife had to have this car. We bought it on the weekend but due to weather conditions have to back to get this coming weekend. Once we pick it up we can go through it better and will know more about it. All we know so far is it is a northern Ontario car that needs lots of love.

Here are a few pics...

...that is going to be a cool looking wagon, I like the tinted glass. Now that looks like a challenge to get it off that ramp stand ???

yea. going to have to bring up tires for it as the ones on it have died a horrible death. the tread and sidewalls are no longer one. the snow and ice on the property made it impossible to get at so we will have some equipment there next weekend to get her down and home safe.

Any Ontario car that needs love biggrin   is a car than needs  "tons and tons" of Love

Better marry that girl soon    casue she will run out of love, when you get a good look at wagon

Kudos for saving more Canadian History

It is nice to see one given another chance. For the longest time nobody saved the wagons. We had friends on a farm in Puslinch that owned a 1963 Safari (white too!) that they put out to pasture way back in 1971. The only reason they kept it was to use as animal-proof garbage storage. It was sad to see. Finally they got it hauled away for scrap when they sold the farm and moved to Owen Sound.

So your fiancé wants the car and is willing to see it through as a project eh? I can see just one of probably many reasons to marry her. Congrats!

It was Late by the time we had the car home and cleaned out of all the parts in it. Looks to be 99% complete. A few options we didn't expect. Someone checked off a few things when ordering this one.

First thing we did when we got into town was wash all the road salt off it from the ride home.

Safely home in the back drive where we will clean it up and try to remove as much mold and farm fresh while we are above zero as we can. we will collect parts for now.

Factory Tach.. Very cool option,  now I'm Curious what rear gear you?

Most likely was a 327 car?   You can tell by how the fuel line is run and size.

very cool project.

Thanks. I'll have to look. We will send away to get for the package eventually.

Yes all the parts are in the car with the exemption of the correct wheel and the carpet. It even came with the correct wagon/409 stock steel wheels.

No, I think the only way to find out is if the 64's have some kind of build sheet, or pay GM Vintage and get the documents.

so most of sunday was working on removing the "farm fresh" from the wagon. lots of pretty disgusting stuff. but only 1 mouse house found in the tailgate. finally got the gate to work. motor is tired but works. good old mold-x on the interior and Lysol spray and a few odor eliminators and its almost livable in there now.

my step-dads car is at my house for the winter to work on also... here is a pic of his.

also on the wagon,  if you get a chance to get underneath,  look on the drivers side of the diff pumpkin for the big P cast into the housing.. bets are the wagon has a posi in it.. especially since it was factor ordered with a tach.

Mike, you folks look like one big happy 64 Pontiac family. I always thought the 64 was one sweet looking Pontiac. Back in the summer of 1964, my dad and mom rented a 64 Pontiac station wagon for us to go on a long trip. My dads 57 Pontiac was being painted at the time. My mom has photos of that trip with the 64 wagon, i should dig them out and post them here. Mike, good luck to you and your lady on the resto of that 64 wagon. Cheers. George.

Thanks George, I would love to see pics you have. Does anyone know if the safari should have wood-grain on the dash panel? ours does. its coming off but its there and looks pretty accurately cut when installed.

ill try to get better pics of it when the weather clears up.

Nice! Does it happen to say how many were made with that engine? You don't see those every day.

Cool. I bought one of these wagons with the 2 guys I was batching with before I was married. It also had the 327 4 barrel. It was to be used as our winter vehicle to the ski hill as we didn't want to take our nicer cars at the time up the hill. It never made it up the ski hill as we gave it a trial run in the fall with a bunch of friends in it and when we tested it up a local mountain it overheated. I paid a $150 for it in Vernon at a dealer and then sold it for $75 a couple months later. We did get more than $75 of entertainment out of it. It actually was a really solid car at the time in the mid seventies and should have been kept, remember it had awesome interior. Blue on blue. Man I'm getting old.
