Thanks for the great pictures. I never knew that the 62 convertible was the 75 millionth GM built. Close to my heart.

3rd pic is very interesting, shows a 62 sedan on the rack, then right behind it, the next chassis , have a look at the engine and tranny,  1/2 of a 389 aka. Iron Duke and no tranny ..it has the rope driveshaft intended for a 62 lemans? Pretty cool!!

American assembly line..

Raj, thanks for sharing those great American Poncho pics with the Pontiac brotherhood. Now if only some of our Canadian members could share some Canadian Poncho assembly line photos, that would be pure Poncho heaven.

I too, love those old factory pics... Always amazed at what determination and hard work could build.... The tooling and assembly!

It's interesting that GM's 75 Millionth car is a 62 Pontiac, as GM's 50 Millionth car was a 55 Chevy Bel-Air.  Chevrolet's 50 Millionth car was a 63 Impala convertible.   That pretty much means 2 out of every 3 cars GM produced by 62/63 that time was a Chevy.

Almost got it right Clint...the 1955 Chevrolet was the 50 millionth GM car,

and the 1963 Chevrolet was the 50 millionth Chevrolet produced and it was a gold coloured 2 door hardtop with a 409.

Thanks George, I did a bit more digging on the 55 Chevy and edited my post probably just as you were submitting your post.  Re the 63 Impala, I could have sworn it was a convertible as I remember them saying on "My Classic Car" that the top was put down and has never been up again.  First mistake I've ever made...

Thank god you saved that shot I posted a few years back! When I got my new lap top I lost everything. I remembered I posted some factory shots of a '67 & '69 Pontiacs as well. If you still have them please post them, thanks.

Mark, isn't your car a Turbo 400? That's a Powerglide car in front. I don't think the Soviets ordered 'Glides!
