Also, we have been trying to decode the VIN #, but it only has 12 digits. This seems to freak out the online decoders, which are expecting 17.
I will search a few other forums, but I thought I would start here.

Very nice acquisition, should be a pleasure updating. Vin s/b 13 digits, if the plate is in on drivers side dash, it
may have slipped hiding one of the numbers.......it's what happened to me, had wrong vin registered in Sk.

Your v.i.n. will actually be on the drivers side hinge pillar. Being a Canadian GM produced car the model year will be the 1st digit (6), followed by the division # (7 = Canadian Pontiac / Beaumont / Acadian). 3rd & 4th digits I suspect will be 35 because I dont see a V8 tag on the front fenders. 35 together with the 7 before it denote Beaumont Custom 6-cylinder. If it is 36 rather than 35 it denotes Beaumont Custom 8-cylinder. 5th & 6th digits will be 17 which denotes Sport Coupe. The remaining 6 digits should be the actual unit number used to complete your unique v.i.n. All Beaumonts & Canadian Chevelles were built only at the Oshawa plant that year.

looks great - thats going to be one rare car - 6 cylinder Sport Deluxe - best get GM Vintage vehicle services documentation for that one - great to see all the trim on the car !
Your v.i.n. will actually be on the drivers side hinge pillar. Thanks for all the replies, I wasn't sure how this would go! We paid a visit to My wife's uncle in London, Ont, expecting a test drive of the car we had talked about a few times. He said Nope, "I have it all gassed up and ready to go, so take 'er home"...So we drove it back to Scarborough that day after lunch.... He has driven and maintained it, rustproofing religiously. My wife remembers when they would take it to Florida as kids.
Original paint colour, but lots of bodywork. Engine has 35,000 miles on the rebuilt 230 in straight 6 engine. I asked her uncle how he would feel about us "fixing it up" and he said "Do what ever you want to it!" He previously had installed a trailer hitch, and his son (who eventually decided not to take the car himself) put in a stereo. It lived in a shed up in Grand Bend for a while, critters ate the interior, so he had it redone prior to 2004.
He said the hood had so much bondo on it that the hinges were wearing out, so he replaced it.
