What's a rusty 66 SD convert worth


i have an opportunity to buy a 66 beaumont sport deluxe ragtop, it needs a frame, quarters, door and fender patches and floors. I am sure there is plenty more to, car has sat for 20 years but is complete with all trim. Knowing it would be 15-20k for body and paint what would a reasonable price be.

When you say complete do you mean it has matching #'s engine, trans, axle, and so on?

By the sound of it, 20K would be closer. Add in to that it likely needs interior and powertrain work as well? If so, you would buy a car like this only if you just HAVE to have this particular car, or if you do all your own work.

More details on the rest of the car? History, power train, interior, any special options?

Yes, its all original but is a 283 Glide car, not my fav but numbers so low its no biggie.

Yes I would do it all but know it would be at least 500 hours ,if not more. Price is north of 10k, seems high to me.

wow never mind cost of rebuild theres alot of hours thee frame is definately TOAST you need a vert frame north of 10k thats the first 10k i would locate a frame then think about it still top and roof frame to deal with for sure nice car open wallet

That car is really stuck in between condition and price (overpriced)...if you're at all worried about what it's worth to it's completed value, you can pretty much guarantee to lose on it at any price. It's certainly a nice looking car in that colour combo... $25k in time + purchase price + materials! parts, etc. if you don't put a value to your time then theres a bit to be made there. If the sd chrome is really nice, then maybe $6-7k. That's why restoring old cars for yourself is a hobby, most hours and $ isn't counted.

This looks like one of those sucker cars. It sucks you in because the paint looks pretty good, the interior just needs a little bit of work, the motor runs a bit rough, the brakes work but pull, the top only has a couple of small tears, and on and on. The trouble is the core of the car is junk. It's basically not too far away from the $1000 complete car sitting in the field so be wary of the initial price.

I always say whatever you figure, double it in cost and time. 1/4's, doors,frame,floor, disassemble whole car to do the work, strip everything prep and paint. Would be a beautiful car when done, but not a 500 hour car.Just my opinion, but I would say 6-7 because of end value and the amount of work that needs to be put in. Might get some slack but it's just my opinion, have restored a few cars but only one for myself. Had a 57 E-Bird in my shop that another guy mucked up. Had to laugh because the turn lever was on the pas side broken off. Not being familiar with the car I thought this must be some fancy option. Nope, he put it in backwards. No repop 6hrs to fix. Just saying look before you buy and get It for the price you want to pay not what he wants. If your looking at it to make money, walk away.If your looking at it to restore/fix for your own enjoyment, you pick the price to make it worth your while. Just my opinion.

Sweet looking, decent CP pedigree, makes sense initially.

Been there. Pulled it all apart, did all the mechanical (which I can do well), spent the bucks, then came the body, and I stalled, realizing I was way out of my league. Tried to keep it alive in my mind, and on the web, but then one day realized, heh, I'm too old, I wanted to drive, not blast and paint forever. It's really a run away as fast as you can judging by the frame. The body can only follow. Sorry.

I think you'd be in for at least $40 for a base rag worth maybe 15 restored. And that's with a new frame, and maybe most of the body.

You have to have at least a good core, or believe me, you'll be chasing that dream forever. Do not be tempted by that Copper Bronze. It can draw you in that colour can. It's bloody evil.

Hey this floor doesn't look too bad.....  HAHA, I 100% agree with this, I do have age and wisdom on my side this time however. Here is a couple more pics, so tempting. I do have a 65 chevelle SS 4 SPD survivor and a 65 full load short wide chevy in the pipeline right now, I would trade out the chevelle for this car however.

Is all the sheetmetal the same as chevelle, could repop chevelle quarters, doors and fenders be hung on the car. I also never saw repop convert inner rear wheelwells in my catalog, frame is no big deal to me. I would do a frame off anyways.
