I have a 62 Pontiac Strato Chief that needs new wheels. The shop manual says it has 14 x 5J wheels and an offset of 0.560. The 14 is the diameter but does that mean a 5" wide rim? Can I go to a wider station wagon size rim? Aftermarket rims in 6" are popular could I go there? Thanks for any suggestions.
14x5J means 5 inches "Bead to Bead" Rim will actually be 6 inches total width....
Station wagon rims (some) are not wider just "reversed" to have "wider drop centre" part show to outside
Newer 14x6 rims (e.g. off S10 Nova etc ) are 14x6 bead to bead and will be 7 inches wide... and are fine
Here is photo of GM 14x6 rims 6 represents the width Bead to Bead Lots of 14x6 have sold at Flea Markets as 14x7's (more $$) because Seller measured total width

Your wheels look fabulous and the price is great! I need to stick to 14" though because my car is now riding on an older set of Keystones (flaking & peeling), with new set of 14" whitewall tires that I wish to keep. Thanks
Maybe worth mentioning, it seems that 14" tires selections are reducing which led me to go with 15" for the long run.

Go with 15", 14 are getting very hard to find and will unfortunatly become dinosaurs very soon. 15x7 rear and 15x6 fronts are a good way to go, that car will take wide wheels for sure.

When I replaced the rear tires on the 64cs. I have 15 inch Corvette rims, my problem was getting white walls. I ended up with 235/70/15 Hankooks. They fit well and very smooth. The car came with 14s but the switch to 15s works fine.

Yes the 235 70 15 is an awesome size on A and B body cars, on the rear. i like 215 70s on the front. also the 205 75 along with a 225 75 also is good, and the 75's you can usually still find a whitewall, but its getting hard!
