Not even power steering or brakes, with an inline Stovebolt for power! Yes it's rare...,desirable? Not so much

In my search for a chassis for the 70 Parisienne, I was dealing on a 70 Impala 2 dr hdtp in the Edmonton area.  6 cyl, 3 speed std, manual steering, manual brakes.  It was in a private yard and had likely been sitting for 20 years, front clip off.   I was unsuccessful with my $1K offer.

Can that thing even get up to highway speed? It looks nice though.

You get get them up to highway speed but it takes a while. I drove a 70 Biscayne with a 6 cylinder/Powerglide (it had PS and PB though) as a daily driver about 26 years ago. What it lacked in power it made up for in dependability!

In 1972 dad got pulled over in Ventura, California for going 80 mph with a trailer in his 1970 Biscayne 6-cylinder. The speed limit was posted as 80 mph but only 55 with a trailer. He got off with a warning, and the cop was very courteous. Then as we were escorted back onto the highway the entire exhaust system dropped. I guess the high speed running wasn't something that car saw normally and fasteners just backed off.

Another story, back in 1996 I saw what turned out to be 427carl's 1966 Strato Chief before he owned it. I was driving home from work in Mississauga with my 6-cylinder 67 Chevelle and I saw the Strato Chief northbound on Highway 427. I wanted to catch up to it to see if it was a Catalina or a Canadian Pontiac so I got on the throttle. I was going 90 mph but I guess the Strato Chief thought I wanted a run. With big block power it was gone..

Now thats a story    468 cubic inches  x  2.73's    It ran 101 mph at the drags in Toronto   it was running a 350 turbo   The BB ran out the 101 mph in 2ND gear

Car was a hoot with the 350 turbo    not as much fun with 4 speed

I notice that the Bel Air emblems from the front fenders are missing. With no holes left it means the car has been repainted. There are also wheel opening moldings on that car, normally an Impala / Caprice item. I do see the pontoon bulges on the quarters, something the repro quarters do not have, so that bodes well. Notice as well the black 2-tone on the roof. There was a similar 1970 Laurentian coupe close by me from 1970-74 that was Gobi Beige with a black 2-tone. It was the equivalent of that car right down to the dog dish caps but it also had a 350 in it. It was replaced in 1974 with a new Buick LeSabre.

Here is exactly what dads 70 Biscayne looked like. It had a 3-in-the-tree and a radio block-off; only options were HD suspension, HD battery & G78-15 blackwalls.

Below is a depiction I created of the coolest 1970 Bel Air Sport Coupe I have ever seen. It was exactly as shown, complete with an LS5 454, F41 bars, H70 redline tires on 15x6 Rally Wheels, all stuff that could have been factory ordered new in 70. This was a sighting in Hamilton back in 1973 on Main Street.
