Calling all stratobench nerds! (and uphoulstery nerds too)

Some of you may already know that i put in a 67 stratobench in my 64 chevelle station wagon last summer.  The uphoulstry was in bad shape,  junkyard find.  It worked very well all last summer, comfy on long road trips, etc,  i even converted it to accomodate my factory 1964 chevelle 4-way power seat tracks, had to cut hole in the side for the switch and modify the frame a bit.

So now i went to the next level, and recovered it.  I wanted a vertical pleat similar to the factory 64 style pattern, but was not at all concered with 1964 originality at this point.  So i chose the 1968 chevelle bucket seat uphoulstry,   bought 2 new bucket seat skins from PUI, then bought some yardage and used my sewing machine to custom fabricate the 2 buckets and join them together,  was alot of work,  sewed new welt beading,  the whole center section, and the front and rear faces,  the backrests are stock buckets,  of couse no ugly 1968 buttons were installed.  Also had to rebuild alot of rusty edgewire and springs, as well as new burlap, and batting,  the seat foams were good luckily.

here are some before and aft pics,  the armrest as yet to be installed in these pics.

I have not really done much sewing up til now,  i have  a 1920's singer indutrial 111w155,  no reverse!    I thought i would practice a bit so i made up a snowmobile seat just to see if i could do it,  i designed and fabricated this one from scratch, foam,  plywood,  entire thing,  37 pleats!  and a custom 63 belair taillight

You've obviously found your calling! Nice job.

I bet you could become a Strato Bench specialist, and people would send them to you to get done.

Good job there Dave. You should be proud of the job you've done. What a transformation and just to think if you had a machine that was fifty years newer and had reverse it may even have been easier.

Amazing job! Any photos of the rest of the car? I didn't know you had a wagon.

It always amazes me how good a job many of us can do if we just plan ahead, learn a little about the task and take our time. You seats look wonderful. I'm sure they are a source of personal pride.
