Another new guy

Howdy all, my name is Rene and I've been lurking and reading through this site for a few weeks now. I live in Edmonton and recently bought a 57 Pathfinder 2 door post. I definitely have my work cut out for me, this car rear ended another in January 1967 and got parked rather than repaired. It sat in the garage like that until the original owner passed away and the family had a scrap guy come and do a clean up a few months back. It eventually ended up in Gibbons AB at Perry's Project Cars. I saw it on kijiji, gave Ivan Perry a call and went down to have a better look. Ivan was excellent to deal with, and has all the parts needed to repair the front end damage.

I have to finish up a K5 Blazer in my garage at the moment to make room for the 57. I'm hoping to have it here by late March.

And the ugly view...

Plans are for a completely stock 'driver'.

Welcome Rene, cool car, a time capsule, front clip looks worse than it is, a handful of bolts later entire front clip comes off, hope your frame isn't bent. Keep us posted with your work on it. Lots of folks on here to help ya.

The pic's are at Perry's. ( http://perrysprojectcars.com/pro.php ) He probably has 200+ cars on site, really heavy on Buick, Olds and Pontiac...

I don't think the frame is bent, but obviously I won't know for sure until I remove the front clip and get a proper look. Floor pans and trunk are super solid. It has the 261 and three on the tree. The motor is complete, and I'm hoping not seized.

Welcome from the Okanagan. Great to see that another classic will be back on the road. Looking forward to following your progress.

Nice old Pathfinder. I just bought a 1956 Strato Chief that has been sitting in a garage since 1980. Will be watching your progress.

I plan to keep the 261, unless there is something catastrophically wrong with it.

Welcome. The damage probably isnt as bad as it looks, once you unbolt the bent sheet metal. I bet the frame is ok except for the end horns where the bumper brackets are.

I like the 57 Chevy influence on the car.  The steering wheel & horn ring are same as 57 Chevy, and the door panels are the "cobblestone" pattern of a 57 Chevy 150 model.

Pretty cool site, and it's probably best I stay away from there or I'll end up building a full on gasser...

...and you don't want to do that to such a great original example of a 57. That thing has trememdous appeal.

No, I really don't want to do that. As soon as I saw this car, and learned it's story I felt it needed to be brought back. To have sat so long, untouched, it'd be a shame IMO to modify it at this point in it's life. It'll be perfectly cool fixed up stock, and I'm sure it'll be a gas to drive it around with the stock 261 and 3 speed manual. A simple car from the past...

About the only thing non stock I can think of that will end up on the car are some 15 x 7 steelies and some modern radials. As long as I can retain the poverty caps.
