Wiper Motor Question 66 Beaumont


Question....the wiper motor on my Beaumont seems quite slow (even on the high speed).  It there a quick fix to this...lubrication?? ...voltage?? I hate the thought of taking it out in the rain but I want to do some longer cruises next summer and you gotta be prepared. Thoughts??

Most likely the copper windings are carboned up. Get a new one, they still sell them, I believe the one for my '65 was @$52, lks exact like nos, if part store doesn't have one, ask for '67 camero should be same unit, catalog may ask two or three speed motor, you'll want a three speed unit to get the low/high speeds. Taking them apart is brutal, they don't come apart easy and you'll end up destroying it.

Thanks for the tip....I replaced the washer pump last year....should have done the whole thing then.

Holy crap!!! Found receipt for wiper motor. Did I mention, Holy crap!!!! Stupid thing lists out at $276.13!!!, apparently I got it for $154.26+tax161.97

I had the same problem with my 62 impala.......turned out the right wiper trans was seizing up......took all the linkage out
,lubed all the pivots prob solved

I was going to say, I wish I knew the stores you shop at!biggrin They usually want hundreds of dollars for a reconditioned unit, and you have to give them your old core as a trade in as well.

I've taken apart a few these (not to fix them, just to see what makes them tick, because they were toast), and I wouldn't want to attempt to fix one ... like fixing a watch!

I was looking at the costs for a refurbed unit and felt a little dizzy... ouch!! I will try lubing her all up here and see if it improves it. Jerel... I will keep you in mind if this doesn't solve the problem.

 take off the cowl....remove clip from motor(don't lose that baby)...try moving the linkage by hand......if it is tight -pull the assembly out....4 bolts

juice up the 2 wiper arm transmissions in the inverted position ......I have a pic. if you need it.........Bob

Make double bloody sure the wires are hooked up properly in their right spots, when I hooked up my original one to the car I used my other car as a reference which was correct, for some unknown reason when I turned key to On position, holy nuclear meltdown, smoke billowing from wiper motor, not cool, not cool at all. So, since it was already melted on the inside, I "tried" taking motor apart, more disaster.

A couple of the washer/wiper motors I tore apart had some really solid, old grease inside them ... I think that's what eventually does them in. The only thing is, to freshen up that old grease it's very labour intensive ... like I said, like fixing a watch.

Thanks for the pics and pointers....so what you are saying is put down the big hammer...be patient and methodical or be prepared to drop $250.... I know where this is headed. I will let you know how I make out and in the meantime will start collecting bottles to pay for parts. Patience.....oh my....
