My 70 Vegamatic hatchback was a pretty good car ... it had baby Camaro styling. No rust, but it started using quite a bit of oil around 76,000 miles, so I got rid of it.

Here's a Car & Driver Pinto/Vega comparision:http://media.caranddriver.com/files/chevrolet-vega-vs-ford-pintochevrolet-vega-versus-ford-pinto-long-term-comparo-nov-1971.pdf

Darryl, your Vega started using oil at 76,000. Now that was luck because my Vega was using oil as of about 47,000. I sold the car with about 51,000 miles on it. Like i said earlier i loved my Vega, except for the oil burning. A sure fire way to stop the oil burning, is to put a V-8 in it. Like the guy who bought my car, or put the sleeves in it. There are no doubt more Vega's out there today than Pinto's but i would venture a guess that they have fire breathing V-8's in them. Vegamatic.............. i love it. Cheers. George.

My Wife's aunt had one,1979......recorded everything ever done to it (I mean everything) Check the number of kms. on the last entry.

Here's the first page and last page of her entries.....after she died 2012? (she was in her 80's) the 1979 Pinto was scrapped.

How is that possible, unless it went through at least three motors. Something is a miss here.

I'm sure there was at least one engine replaced....haven't discovered when as of yet.

It's hard to throw this stuff out, after all the record keeping done almost daily  for 30 years.

Every oil change, every visit to a mechanic, every argument about repairs, every fan belt and the price paid and where she bought it.Aunt Jean's Pinto record Books.jpg

Darryl, close.....she was a spinster and never married. A child of the depression era.

She lived in a very small rented trailer in Gananoque after she gave up her apartment in Ottawa in 1981.

Her furniture was in storage (she paid storage fees all that time) until she died some 30 + years later.

No worries ... my remedy is .... a wife already annoyed with the lack of space in the driveway. Until the Jeep (daughter's nightmare) is out and gone, I'm banned from new projects.

Nope. You can barely see the front-facing rear seat in this picture:
