There are about 800 steam cars in the world: 300 in museums, 500 licensed on the road. Of those 500, about 300 are original (not replicas) Stanleys. Of those 300, about 25 were made in 1919, and of those 25, six are 735 A four passenger touring cars. This is one of them, and it's the rarest. It was converted to a Doble forced air burner by William Besler, the developer of the worlds first and only steam powered aircraft, using a burner of the same design. One of the best-running Stanleys I've seen. Original except for the burner. Comes with new (spare) boiler worth $5,000. Needs upholstery, leather for same included.

Better known as a loco-mobile, half locomotive half vehicle. I believe it was filled with water as its source for steam, just like a real locomotive. Yup Leno has a few of them, one of his favorite cars, also has a turn of the century all electric car, even has the very rare home charging unit for the electric car. that stanley being in victoria, i wouldnt be surprised if it was originally owned by Dunsmuir, Craigdarroch castle his home or Buchard, only wealthy could afford one

This one has the Doble conversion which was from the later built Doble car that allowed rapid heating and use of the car much faster than the original Stanley unit. Locomobile was the name of a very high end gas powered car.
Back in 1973 I saw the boiler of a Stanley Steamer.
Got hired for a summer job, and first job assigned was to paint the garage windows.
Boss takes me to the garage, and for a few minutes we watch a maintenance mechanic replacing Inconel tubes, in the boiler.
- I quickly grew to respect my boss, a very smart business man & talented guy with a deep passion for vintage cars
I often wondered, who collects a Stanley Steamer & a few months on the job, I got my answer with a nice private viewing once.
- one with 25 collector cars in heated storage...from brass T's, to phone booth coupes to Essex's to phaetons to a Rolls Royce Silver Ghost (1931 ?)
I hope it's ok if I make a little steam contribution in this thread. A friend just sent me this link a few minutes ago. Talk about torque, the thing is down to about 50 rpm on the corner!
