It is a pleasure to feature what could be said the most famous Canadian Poncho there is. Joe Lizon's 65 Acadian-Beaumont has been featured in a New York Times article as well as in Old Auto's. It has also not shy to the show circuit and has received many coveted awards including:
Geneva Ill. 1st place in its Class
Cobble Beach, Owen Sound Ont. 2nd place
Ault Park, Cincinnati Oh. 2nd place
Dayton Oh. 2n place
Boca Raton, Fl. 2nd place
Joe gives us the details of this extremely rare car:
Actually a very good friend of mine Chris Pointon (Arcadian on this web site) found the car and told me about it. He originally thought it was a BB Beaumont and gave me all the information.
I immediately called a person named Duffy who has a shop in Bracebridge rebuilding motors. He originally got the car from Dales Muscle cars. Duffy and I talked and he read me the GM build sheet which said it was not a BB Beaumont but a true L79 SB car. Since I had originally owned a 1965 Evening Orchard L79 Chevelle SS. I told him I would be up the next day with the $2500 Canadian he was asking for the car.
I called Chris & told him I was buying the Beaumont and that I would be driving to Bracebridge to pick it up. Chris said he had a friend with a car hauler & would be glad to drive up with me to get the car. Chris and I pulled into Duffy's shop and there it was covered in snow. We closed the deal and loaded the Beaumont on the car hauler and took it to Hepworth On. where Al Ruth did the complete restoration.
After finding out just how RARE a Beaumont I had just bought was, I then found a second L79 Beaumont in Chatham On. and immediately with cash ($2000 Canadian this time) drove to Chatham and bought it sight unseen. It was in a little rougher shape sitting next to the barn, with the engine, trans, and blown rear end in the barn. It didn't matter. I now am the owner of two of the original 23 L79 Beaumonts built.
B.E.A.UT.I.F.U.L. and with a 327/350 H.P...............WOW now that is an automobile. Congrats on a real sweet restoration on a real sweet car. Cheers. George.
