Pontiac Grand Prix connection - 1932 Dusenberg Model J with Model SJ Supercharger

This is a beautiful car and one that inspired John Delorean when he fathered the 69 Grand Prix. Notice the long hood and short rear end and Model J and SJ designations.

Ray, Although Delorean may have taken his idea for the Grand Prix from the early Dusenberg of 1932, I think it the Exner design of the

early 60's (attempted revival of the Dusenberg name into the car market) that he definitely took ideas from.

Interesting story of Dusenberg's attempt to come back, twice, once in the 60's and again in the late 70's.

I think Exner's car looks more like the failure below of the same era. Grand Prix was an huge success and Icon.

The Model J was a handmade work of art.

Hence the old expression, "it's a Dusie!"

There used to be some great American marques, like Auburn, Peirce-Arrow (from Buffalo). Those coffin-nose Cords were sort of the inspiration of the Olds Toronado.

When you think about it, GM was in an unassailable position in the market. With all that critical mass, 5 car divisions (more if you consider the specialty Canadian hybrids thumbsup.gif  ) It gave GM the ability to shuffle various stuff to different divisions. I mean the 1966 E-bodies were the Toronado & Riviera. One was FWD and the other RWD. Meanwhile running high-speed cameras at Camaro leaf springs lead to the implementing of staggered shocks. I guess mass production and market share could fund a lot of development.
