1968 Parisienne steering column.

Hi,

I have an Australian delivered RHD 1968 Parisienne 4 door with the 1965 Chevy Impala dash. My question is; Are the steering column assemblies in these Parisienne's the same as the 1965 Chevy Impala's?

I've been thinking about buying an aftermarket steering column for the car, one that is non tilt, ignition key still in the dash, non collapse able and set up for a floor shifter arrangement.

Can anyone recommend a brand at all?

Or failing that does anyone know where I could buy replacement parts for the original? Especially the bearings?

Thanks.

I'm confused between a 65 dash in a 68 Parisienne. Is this really what you want to say?

Yes, the right hand drive Pontiacs used a 65 Chevrolet dash.

There's a 67 Parisienne RHD in this thread that shows a pic of the Impala dash-

In that picture, it appears to be the 67 style column in a 65 dash. I had never noticed that before. I thought they used the 65 column too.

from 67 the columns were collapsable. Bearings available online usually ebay us. Best bet would be give NOS, site sponsor a try. Sadly aussie dashes were a fibreglass cutdown pauper pack version of the 65 right up to 68. I have used a HZ holden column as have mates of mine With success. Just need to figure out wiring which is not too difficult. Also gives a wide range of steering wheel options at a better price. 65 requires slight mods to the column brackets. From memory you use the chev shaft and just collapse it sloghtly which is also not an issue. Just a suggestion...

Hey Phil,

That's good to know about the HZ steering column would never have guessed. That idea gives me a few more options. Thanks for the info.

Are you a member of the Queensland Pontiac Club by any chance?

No probs mate. Not a memeber of the pontiac club. Fitting the HZ can be fiddly but rewarding.
