I'm going to look at a 12 bolt rear end today but dont know much about them. if I turn a wheel in forward direction the other side should turn Bacwards? forwards? its on the ground so will have to raise it to do that . are there any other ways to get a positive ID? If I take the rear cover off im not sure I could tell the differance. ANY PICS OR INFO WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED, Thanks for any help on this
Note: Truck 12 bolts are not the same as car 12 bolts. If it's from a big car make sure it is a Chevy as some of the Olds, Pontiac and Buick ones are actually a 10 bolt on the inside.
Pull the cover, count the ring gear bolts and verify that the diff has c-clips.
Here's a picture of the 12 bolt Type-C rear in my 65 442. Also....not sure of what years will bolt up to the original upper and lower trailing arms, or driveshaft. My uppers and shaft look new, so it gets one pondering. I've been sort of thinking about going back to a stock type diff for my 442, just so I can get highway gears (308) back in it. It's a pig to drive on the highway with 3.73
