Standard vs Auto

Just wondering what most of you guys drive and what percent of your fleet is standard? These vehicles have to be owned (in your name) and driven by you, not your wife, son, daughter etc. Don't have to list them all as some of you might write a book. Mine

96 f350-standard

57 Belair-standard

88 Cavalier-standard

66 Canso-auto                      75% standard

I have one standard and one auto. This is a debate I always have with myself when thinking of buying another classic. Standard is definitely more fun, but unless the car is sporty I tend to lean towards getting an automatic.

Advantages of auto are:

Good for Crusing.

Less annoying in traffic.

When your teenage sons take your car you won't have to hear them grind the gears.

You can justify to,your wife that your buying another car for you both to share.

07 Tundra, auto

64 Lemans standard. Lumpy engine makes it hard to drive at low speed, BUT love the standard.

Give the option, I want a stick any day. But my current rides never came equipped.

My personal cars

'85 Parisienne
'81 Olds Custom Cruiser.

I've got a '92 wrangler and a '91 sonoma (projects) with three pedals, but neither is running at the moment .. nor will they be mine when they are. One's earmarked for my girl, one for her youngest brother. The oldest boy has his eye on my Parisienne .... I expect there'll be a fight in the near future over that presumption.

The missus ... 2005 Malibu, on it's second automatic and I'm saving for it to implode soon.

I didn't like spilling my coffee shifting gears... but you do feel more engaged with the car...

Daily driver: Audi S5 convertible, 7 sp auto, don't miss the stick at all..
My Sunday car: 67 Beaumont, 3 sp auto... but after having a daily driver manual for the past 5 years up until last month, I wouldn't mind a 5 speed in the Beaumont!
