I think the only major difference between a convertible frame and a hardtop is the area under the body. The vert is fully boxed, the hard top is open.

Ni a lot of instances the vert frames have more body fixing points and can be wider down the rails to add stiffness due to no roof

Pontiac had an option number where a regular car could be ordered with the heavy duty reinforced convertible frame. Most of the 1971 Lemans 455 HO cars had this frame.

Do some research on the net  Willy.. No reason you can't box the hardtop frame.  You are going to want to beef it up for the convertible.

You will have the original vert frame there to compare..

good luck !

Ames Performance sells a kit that gives you the parts to box a hardtop frame. part #S388PH $195.00 You'll more than likely have to get a different cross member or modify the boxing kit to work with your cross member but that could compromise the reason you are boxing the frame.
