New '64 Parisienne owner

Hey gang. Fairly new to the site, been lurking for a few months now reading old posts. I picked up a '64 Parisienne 4 door off of a friend last year in "driveable" condition. This is by far the oldest vehicle I've had in the stable to date at almost twice my age!I've been building cars since I was 18, although my pops is a thorough motorcycle enthusiast and wanted nothing to do with my car projects haha. My friend bought this car about 5 years from some farmers in Manitoba. He brought it back to Elk Point Alberta and did some cruising in it. The farmers laid out the flat black paint job with flames....so don't blame me! Truthfully I kinda dig it. The body, well it's seen some war, showing a few dents and creases. There's almost no rust on it which got me super excited! The plan is to make it into a nice driver for my pops to cruise around in. His uncle had a '64 2 door when he was growing up so this one really hits a nostalgic note for him.

This is how it looked when I picked it up. Someone has cut the springs and swapped in a smogger 350 at some point. The car still retains the powerglide and stock rear end. There's been a lot of "creative" wiring done through it's life which will need to be fixed up. I've done shocks, balljoints, control valve and steering linkage already to bring it up to safe driveable state. Gotta say, the ram assist power steering has a unique and classic feel to it but far too loose and numb for my liking. Other than that she's a riot to drive as it sits! There's still plenty of room to improve though.

Plans are: CPP 500 steering conversion, 4 wheel discs, replace the cut springs, new front upper/lower control arm bushings, large front and rear sway bars, I'll fabricate new rear control arms and panhard bar, and add the second upper arm. For motivation, I've had a 402 which I built just after high school kicking around waiting for a new home. It's a pretty mild build at 10.4:1 compression, baby hydraulic roller cam, forged rotating assembly, massaged closed chamber oval ports, and a dual plane intake. This year it will run a quick fuel 750 from my small block, next year it will be fuel injected. The plan was to use a 4l80e behind it but I just couldn't justify $500 signal box to make the factory speedo work along with a $400 control box to retain the automatic shifting. I've conceded to drop the overdrive and run a tried and true TH400 instead. I'm using headman long tubes backed by 3" exhaust out to the back with as much muffler as I can fit to keep it really subdued. Getting the front seat reupholstered along with new weather seals will round up the rest of the car. I may have to start a new thread about the weather seals though...I'm having a heck of a time finding them!

Apologies for the long winded nature of this intro post. I'm really excited to chat with you lot, learn some things about these x frame cars, and spin some wrenches on something with this much character!

Cheers,Ryer

Welcome to the site!
It sounds like you have a really good plan for that car, but in the meantime it looks pretty cool just the way it is.
The pictures look really good too.

Thanks for the warm welcome fellas! At some point I'd like to get the exterior to show worthy state like some of yours! I think these 58-64's have just a nice classy and honest look to them, really something that deserves to be preserved. I'm aiming to get the work done this summer as filler between all the other projects that are stacking up. If there's some interest, I could start a build thread on the members rides board.

Dale, I'll be in touch soon with a list. I think everything except the windowletts need replacing but will confirm.

Cheers,
Ryer

Nice ride Ryer. Welcome from Barrie Ontario. I am kind of partial to 64s myself and it is great to see a young enthusiast like yourself.
