Alain, you can buy new (reproduction) power assist cylinders for the 55 56 57 Chev/Pontiac. I would not recommend rebuilding the original because they leak no matter what. The new reproduction units have stainless steel construction, which makes them far superior to the original's. By the way, welcome aboard here on C.P. Cheers. George

Heres a question no one asked, is the 57 originally a Pwr. strg. car or are you converting??? More than the cylinder is needed, Generator, & I think some strg. components are different too??? Pete

Pete is correct, the pump was mounted on the back of a different generator, and there are some other differences too - brackets, etc.

If converting, there are kits using modern components that would be a better way to go, eh?

Dave

Alain, just in case you need this info, here it is. To convert a non P.S car to an original 57 P.S. you need the following. P.S. generator with splined shaft at the back, P.S generator bracket, P.S. pump that mounts behind generator, two large and two small hydraulic hoses, P.S. assist ram cylinder, assist ram bracket that goes on the frame (passenger side), P.S. control valve, rubber bushing kit that goes on the ram, main hose bracket that goes to the frame (drivers side), P.S. pitman arm and the exhaust shield that goes on exhaust pipe near the hoses. All of these parts are available new reproduction and you can buy the whole kit complete. The drill dimples are already on the frame for both brackets, so it is fool proof to know where to drill the holes. When ordering, just say 1957 Chevrolet. I converted my 57 Pontiac back in 1997 and it is real easy when you have ALL the correct parts. Good luck. George

Alain, just be sure it is of stainless steel construction. If not it is useless and will leak for sure. Good luck.

George

Alain, i am sorry to change the subject but i have  to ask. Is your 57 Pontiac the 57 that Andre (Fitz) was working on a while back. Tell us about your 57 Pontiac when you get a chance and you might want to consider having your 57 a Canadian Poncho monthly feature car. PM Todd (our C.P.) leader about having your 57 as a feature car. Cheers. George

Hi George

For the Pontiac, yes it's the one that André worked on it.

I bought the car last year. I don't know almost nothing in cars mechanics.no

I need guys like Fytz and others ones to make the job for me.

I knew from one of you guys that my 57 Pontiac was a Pathfinder.

The engine has been change for 283 V8

Automatic 2 speeds transmision

There's a lot to do on the car, but little by little ......

Don't ask me any questions about the specs of the car I won't be able to answer.no

Have a nice week

And Cheers to you AlainDSC_2579.JPG

If that "Nice' 57 were mine, I'd be swapping out to a 905 strg. box & late model pump

Alain, feel free to ask any and all questions you may have on your 57 Pontiac. Now that you are a part of the Canadian Pontiac brotherhood here, you should be picking our brains about information and advise on your Pontiac. Any and all questions are good questions and there is usually some one that knows the answer. I hope you enjoy your journey here on C.P. and good luck with your sweet looking 57 Pontiac. Cheers George
