you can swap/cut the coils but this will generally give you a harsher ride and not have as much up travel in the suspension before you hit the bump stops

if you use a lowering spindle you retain the stock ride quality but might run into clearance issues with the lower control arm and the rim (depends on the wheel diameter)

if you have a credit card with lots of room left go air ride, best of all worlds biggrin

Alot depends on how much u want to lower it, small block, big block?
I lowered my (2) 64, new springs, by cutting half a coil, front and back and got about and inch.
My lower control arms are just about level.
I don't find the ride harsh.

Are you looking at lowering front & rear? Or just the front?  Cutting part or all of a coil out of the front springs is doable - but I don't think that will work on the rear of 1967 and newer A-bodies because (if I remember correctly) they have a pig tail both top & bottom.

I hadn't heard about the wheel-to-control arm clearance issue with drop spindles mentioned by 2plus2 - I need to look into that.

Here's a pretty good article on lowering a car...

use Eibach coilsprings-they drop your car about 1 1/2"-easy swap-put in new gas shocks at the same time.Have done it 4 times to cars I have owned and it works excellent each and every time-did it on my 66 beaumont rag,my 68 buick rag,and my 68 wagon-they all sat really nice after the new coils were installed

airbags suck from my personal experience-change the ride way way too much-not the same feel as springs at all

Would like to lower front 2 inches and rear 1 inch and run 17 or 18 inch wheels. will be small block. I am ordering a disc brake upgrade so thought i'd get a 2" drop spindle with 13 " rotors and 1" lowering spring in rear. Although I like the suggestion to use lowering springs all around. Just looking for the way with the least problems and fairly easy on the wallet. ( if there is one)

I ran stock disc brake spindles-2" drop spindles and a lowering coil will put the car on the ground
