update on the 54 laurentian and 49 pontiac build

Hey All

Wow its been awhile, forgive me its been a busy summer and i'm way behind what i'd thought I would have done by now.So I swapped out cars in my garage, the 49 came home for assembly and the 54 went to the shop for the panel replacement. So i'll start with the 54,i know some of you are big on the factory markings so it was intersesting to find NOV in paint on the d.s door when I removed the factory paper barrier.Anyways i'd like to say all is going well but it seems the deeper I go into the car the more rot I find.Mostly on the drivers side and that coupled with my basic welding  skills are turning out to be a test.Alot of the panels that I will replace will have to be hand made as no one repops them anywhere. Some stuff like the d.s floor where I thought I could just replace a small section I am just blowing through when I try to join the new to old sections so it looks like it will be easier just to replace the entire floor pan.The worst will be the rear wheelwell and door dog leg.I really can't believe no one makes these,i can find all the parts for the 49 including wheelhouses but not the 54 which I thought would have been a way more popular car.It is almost at the point of removing the body and buying a rotisserie and just going all out on it.I need to make trunk floor extensions as well cause again no one makes them, arrgghhh!!!

Ok on to the 49,this one is finally starting to come together.I don't even want to think how much time I have into color sanding the car,it must be 100 hours easy. But tonite I was able to buff out one side of the hood and I am really happy with the results of all those hours. If the rest of the car turns out this well i'll be more than happy.Hopefully in the next few wekks i'll have the motor back in and parts going back on for the final time.First I want to swap out the master cylinder for the new one while its wide open, then the motor and trans can go back in.I'll have lots of questions i'm sure a couple I know already is there is a rod/linkage that goes across the firewall in back of the motoe can somebody send me a pic of theirs as I have just a box of brkts and springs and not sure if I have it all or how it exactly goes together. The next will be when I go to hook up the three on the tree to the trans, waht position should the trans levers be in?So many questions still to come, lol

Thanks for the update.

If your going to a BBQ process be prepare to get the car running very later than you may think....ask me how I know... but you'll be happy with the result. It's a beautiful Canadian Pontiac you have it's worth it.

Fitz.
