1962 pontiac hanger bearing Mod

I found a new hanger bearing at the flea market last weekend, just a normal rubber mount. I had read about the urethane upgraded ones for $100 ++ and decided I would fill this one I have with expanding foam

I taped up a few passages around it and filled it up, it cured well and still has a bit of give. not nearly as much as before. I can see why the stock ones wear out so fast.

Different.

Let us know how it feels after installation.

I'd be concerned it would transmit too much driveline noise if it's too rigid, but as Darryl says, we'll know once you try it. The idea sure seems good. The new ones right out of the box seem to have a lot of slop in them.

Installed it and seems to work fine.. .considering the old one was completely shot it's much better. has a slight vibration at 40-50 kph but it goes away completely before and after that

That vibration may be from the resonance that the looser version was meant to cancel out, but the only way to be sure would have been to test it before and after your modification.

Cool, thanks for the update.

Another thing that can be done is to take a piece of flat iron, cut it so it is long enough to reach from one side (by the mount hole) over the round part to the other side by the mount hole. Stops the carrier from twisting. It works like a strap.  David Anderson did this for me a couple of years back.

Yup,  that is a good idea.  I have seen many break at the narrow part.  Good idea to fully weld the retangular plate too.
