Hi, I just got my 69 Beaumont saftied and on the road today. I have discovered that my fuel gauge is not working. I have no power going to the wire that goes to the sending unit. Any ideas where I should look first? All of my fuses are good and all other gauges, lights and idiot lights work.
I did solve my fuel gauge issue. After all testing led me to deciding that the sending unit was indeed the problem, I ordered a new sending unit. Once I lowered the tank I went to remover the power feed to the sender and it just kind of fell away when I touched it. I believe when it was previously installed that the post on the sending unit had been inserted between the protective rubber boot and the post receiver. Originally it worked (I checked with the previous owner)but with some driving had popped off and stopped working.
The long and short is that I removed the sender from my tank, hooked the feed wire up, grounded the negative and ran the float up and down while observing the fuel gauge which was moving from full to empty. Problem solved! I reinstalled the sender and tank and returned the new sender to the local parts store.
Thanks to those who offered suggestions and advise.
