A good friend and I worked on the car this weekend with pretty decent success.
First order of business was to clean the interior out and get rid of all the mice crap. Just disgusting.
We then moved the car into his shop and pulled the engine. Spent about 6 hours cleaning it and provided a fresh coat of CDN Pontiac orange. Swapped the cam and tossed the 2bbl in favour of an aluminum intake and Q-jet.
We put on a different set of rims and tires after checking the brakes.
Spent some time giving the exterior a good scrub and followed up with a power polish using a scratch remover/polish.
Not bad for 47 year old paint. The top has a lot of stains in it. I suspect bird droppings and assorted tree sap. I tried a small area to colour sand (2000 grit) and polish and it cleaned up some. Got a better shine but some of stains are still staying.
You've done well. I compared today's photo's with the ones from when you got it, and the paint looks a heck of a lot better. It's amazing what a little elbow grease will do.
Remember the difference in horsepower between the 4bbl and 2bbl on THAT PARTICULAR motor is 5hp. It's rated 255hp where it was available with the 4bbl. And the 2bbl runs so crisp and nicely that I wouldn't mess with it!
Sure cleaned up nicely, at least in the photo!

Saw one just like it in Montreal this weekend when I went down for the F1 race. If I had read this post earlier I would have take a picture of it. Also green.
Some more progress. I removed the front and back glass repaired and painted the dash and rear window ledge. Took two weeks to accomplish as the work is being done out side and the weather messed up my paint work twice. Third time was a charm. I had some left over verdoro green that was pretty close to the same shade as the steering column so I used that and added flattener to cut the gloss.
Put in a new carpet and a set of cheap seat covers to not be sitting on the messed up seats.
