That's a really nice car, I think it could benefit from the torque of the 350 Votrec, that's  a big heavy car to move around, looks as solid as a tank though. Great colour combo.

Excellent! Nice upgrades to suspension and other important areas, too.

I can't tell from the photo - is that a torpedo back, or regular 2DR sedan?

283 is tempting, but .... I'd go with more cubes if it is just as easy.

THANKS !!!!   I wasn't sure if the purists would agree  wink

the paint is home paint jub sie 10 years ago,, it was shiny metal flake on the roof.. hoping I can hit it and make it shine again .  showing a few wounds.. but pretty decent .. a lot of the right money was spent on this car !

I leaning towards the 283.. or I have a  65 - 327 that needs to be freshened.. I'd love to plant the 350 Vortec in it.. BUT .. I really want to try and do the engine all OLD school trim..  I even have a chrome Generator .. but that mght be a step backward !!   lol..

I'll pick away at the little stuff.   I have an old school tach to replace this tuner one .. LOL !

sure does drive nice..  the wife is even interested in cruising this one !

This is a 5.7 Vortec done Old Skool, 385 lb ft torque in modern applications, add headers and duals and it will be well over 400. The Vortec is the basis for the Ram Jet crate engine GM sells.

Purist? Not me, for sure smile

'Flake roof, gonzo, buff it out! (some day I have to replace the roof on my 56 and I will go silver metalflake for sure)

Yah definitely replace that tach, eh?

And is that a Tiki head on the shifter knob? Cool! I would definitely consider adding to the gas pedal biggrin

Bigfoot.jpg

And ... a POTVIN CAMS decal under the hood!!! I haven't heard that name for, oh, let's just say, a loooooooooong time ... that is just excellent! (of course the Mooneyes are always a plus)

Looking at that engine compartment, it seems like you have lots of room there, if side motor mounts are in place now, you have plenty of room forward, since HEI fits now should be no firewall problems, looks like master cylinder is under the floor so no clearance problems there, so ... maybe ... BIG BLOCK! Probably have to use fenderwell headers ... just a thought

Yah that one is just as good, eh?

And I know the exchange rate is not so good now, but still, you can get either stock height or tall (pretend you got roller rockers, eh?) Cal Custom VC's for not so much $$$ ...

Short

Tall

Picked away at fixin a Bunch of little stuff on the 51 ..

car had a rock hard pedal.. And brake fade .. ..sketchy !

brakes.. Under floor set up.  Added a dual booster , and a new 1" bore ,  plumbed the rear residual valve in the correct direction ?  Wow ! Even has an arrow on it ??

stops nice now

removed the cheesy tuner tach...

Added a 66 riviera  dual snorkel air cleaner

rebuilt the carb

re wired the signal switch.. Had an idiot it column.. Brake lights worked on the dash and in the front?  Absolutely everything about the wiring was wrong !

New brake light lever style switch.. Made it adjustable with a bump arm.

added 1" spacers to the rear wheels .. They looked dorky all tucked in tight .

fixed the power steering leak.

found a grill center

engine is hanging in there... In needs some love.. Or upgrade ..? Haven't diagnosed if it is hurt yet.

more to do yet ...  But it is coming along !

Makes ya wonder don't it about how some people "build" their hot rod.
It'll be a good one once you are done.

Funny thing is..  I was able to do some detective work and back tracked to the owner slash builder of this car.. He had a professional shop do the drivetrain / suspension up grade for him..

Amazing .. cause I'm the 4 th owner since..  Everyone else just lived with the wrongs ?    Really ?

Not surprised. Just because they are charging some one for the work some guys call themselves professionals. Nothing professional about them. Gives all reputable shops a bad name. Seen and fixed lots when dad and I had our shop. Many things just like you said that make you shake your head.
