I have been searching for a 66 SD Convertible to add to my collection. I wanted a 4spd matching numbers car with paperwork. Well it looks like I might have found it . It's real, documented with paperwork back to day one and was born black with red interior. It is an older restoration and has had the quarters replaced with coupe quarters so there may be some slight concerns there. It needs detail work in the interior and engine compartment but nothing major. I estimate 10-15 k to get it the way I would like it. I was wondering if anyone on the site knows the car? I made what I believe to be a substantial offer but I am to far away from what the buyer wants. I can pass along the contact info to anyone willing to pay close to 90k US.
Bill, you are like a truffle-sniffing dog. I dont mean you are a dog, I mean that you can see a diamond when few others can. Such cars as this are very rare, and I mean legitimate factory 396 convertibles sold in Canada. Sometimes it take what it takes, just like the 1969 SD-396 hardtop in Scarborough near where I live. To do these cars justice means having some serious green to back it up. I understand your respect and appreciation of these rare Canadian legends. I grew up listening to Commander Tom & Erv Weinstein on this side of the border. I also remember the Olds Fashion Sale with the Barber Shop Quartet in 1970 selling the Olds Indy Pace Car and the Rick Azar Special 1976 Olds Cutlass Supreme.
Personally I hope you get the car, as I see few lining up with the dollars that it takes to restore such a car.
Respect!

That's a steep price for that car, but it's v.rare! Looks like it needs some detailing, but not too much. I know of a similar looking 66 sd, sbc car, nicer detailing, and I'd think low $30s would get it done...it's amazing the up charge on the 396... Kind of like finding an LS6. Good luck with the purchase!
WOW! What a beauty! Great colour combo and drive train, and all there!

Oh my, that is a beauty!
Pardon my ignorance, but I see the power roof switch on the left, but what is the switch on the right? Can't imagine it is for a rear speaker, being a convertible. And as much as I like the BB hoods, it's nice to see that the owner fought the temptation to transpant one on.)
Is this a BC car per chance?

It is a BC car..... Do you know about it? The switch on the right is for the rear speaker , that was an original option on the car but it is long gone as the owner said it was useless.

I could not have said that better.
Bill, I take my hat off to you for your sincere appreciation of these cars. That is one heck of a rare and desirable 1966 Beaumont SD 396 convertible!

I may know someone who is familiar with it. I'll do some digging...

That would make a great addition to your collection. I think the price is really high for a car that needs $15k to make it a show car. But, how often do these come available especially in such a desirable color and drivetrain combo? How many 1966 big block convertibles were built and how many are left? I hope you end up with the car.
Many thanks to Bill for posting pictures of my car. These pictures were taken the first day I drove it. I was in a hurry to get pictures away to the B.C. insurance corporation to apply fpr collector plates. The interior has long since been finished and cleaned up, steering wheel has been restored, console wires connected and concealed . I can see somebody spending 2 to 5 k to bring it up to their liking. to answer the question regarding the switch on the right I did order it with a rear seat speaker, it was basically useless. member bzbaz63 has seen my car at he Salmon Arm B.C. car show last summer, I am sure he will give you an honest opion of the car. I do have the original contract GMAC and the info sheet form the archives in Oshawa. I am going to update the pictures an put it up for sale in the early spring.
Julien, have you had your car at the Hot Nites in the City in Kamloops in the last few years. Pretty sure I've seen it but just trying to remember exactly where.
Oh good, I still have some of my memory. That was the last time I was up there and I was impressed by the Beaumont turn out. You have a gorgeous car. I probably have some pictures of it too.
Once you drive the new toys the old one pale in comparison
There is a unique difference you have to appreciate. I love them all equally.
I know there is but 90 grand U.S. is in museum pricing who would drive it downtown for milk?
Who cares what they're worth, drive em. Hopefully you can rebuild it if someone runs into you, otherwise you get 20 cents on the dollar from insurance and you start off with another one.
You are correct !! except I don't have a 90 grand U.S. to spend on a toy I have 3 nice trucks worth 15g lol I had a 150 grand and got screwed out of that by a son in law
