NEED RIV AND BOARDER HELP ASAP... IMPORTING A CAR FROM THE US..


Hey folks... Got a line on a car from the US that I need assistance and information on in getting it across the boarder... Car is an '06 GTO and is located in MT.. Please feel free to forward you experiences plus the more painfree ideas in getting it here, the better... I got a quote from a transport company and they want $3000... Foam Lake is my location but Regina would do too... My crossing would be Regway on the #6 south from Regina... Thanks...

Plus, if anyone has contact with or know of anyone coming on an empty return trip/known transport company would be greatly appreciated....

If I were you, I'd really think about transporting it myself.  The transport companies all be high.

I would but me no have passport! (lol) That being said, they will deliver to Plentywood for $500... (almost 7 hours away) I will contact them again and see if they will bring it across the boarder and then I will be fine from there....

Plus, during the week, running my own shop doesn't allow much time to juggle with winter coming on...

 That sounds a little high............ Reliable Transporters delivered my Camaro from Phoenix Az. to Grand Forks ND last year for under $2000 USD. They are the same 

company Barrett and Mecum use. They also delivered my Camaro from Virginia to Az for less than $2000 USD 3 years ago.

Hey Dale... The kicker, I "modified" my birth certificate a year or 2 before my drinking age.... NEVER do that while trying to get into the Canadian Legion and your Dads friends are on the door looking for underagers to try and pass by.... Which of course, I was denied access to entry.... LOLOL

Just make sure your paperwork is in order when crossing the border, make sure the registration or title is at the border crossing 48 hrs before car passes through. Make sure if they accept a fax, or if the original is required. Also make sure the price you paid for the car is verifiable either though emails with the seller or by written letter by the seller.

Did this a year ago with my daughter. We brought a car up from Dallas into Alberta. She had done her homework and had everything prepared. Notified border 72 hrs in advance.
She hired a broker to help with the crossing - but the broker was very reasonable ( believe it was $125 or $150 ).
We spent about 10 - 15 minutes on the US side getting the "stamp" and then a few more minutes on the CDN side paying the taxes.
Make sure your crossing booth accepts vehicles 24/7. The one south of Lethbridge does. Buffalo is only dayshift M-F.

 Thanks for all the help.... I also had to call GM for a recall letter for the crossing... The gal there was very helpful and excited when she got her answer to what I was getting... I also asked the selling dealer if they would bring the car over to get away from the hassle of me not having the passport... They are to let me know this morning..

The car is only 1000kms.... Looks like I may be getting the US side straightened out as I talked to the dealer again today and they have it pretty much clued up.... The border is not 4 hours away.... Tomorrow I should know..

That would make it a lot simpler for sure, otherwise if you send a buddy it is only a day's drive. Does your dealer plate work in the States?

Personally, I don't have one but here in Saskie, you can get an 8 day permit for $40 for this sole purpose... I sent a message to see if Wednesday will work since it is a holiday... not the most appropriate one but.... AND, it is "suppose" to be +7 to boot...

The car is home safe and sound..... Not a real hassle.... The driver I had with me wanted to see if he could get into the States, issue many years ago, and the Canadian side wouldn't let him walk there... They said I could drive him there... Issue! I didn't have a passport and the US guys didn't appreciate that... LOL... I informed them that I was just driving him over and they stoutly said, "you are in the United States now'... Oh my!

The driver of the car from the US couldn't come to Canada because he had a DUI... SO, he sent, with permission, his gal over to pick me up, to go across the US border again to drive the car back over the Canadian border.... (hahaha)

The guard at the Canadian side was quite interested in the car... powertrain etc..... I stopped for fuel in the Fort and was trailed by an RCMP truck to the COOP cardlock for fuel and he had the lights a blazing... When I got out of the car with my file folder, the look of "ahhhh" appeared on his face.... Obviously, no plate on the car.. He too asked...

Cool, I was going to ask this morning how it had worked out, thought of you yesterday when I was mashing the pedal on our G8!

I hope you are going to put some miles on it! I know it's low miles and all, but you have to enjoy it too.... Buy a tuner and program it, you'll be amazed at the difference in it.

Oh, I was happy with the G8 too. I had the programmer sitting here beside the computer for the better part of a year. Last week my nephew (owner of 2 G8's) was here so we programmed it. Before I was happy with it, now I'm HAPPY with it! The nice thing is you don't have to modify the car, it's back to stock in 5 minutes if you want. It even improves fuel economy.
