I'll try to post more pics this time but my net is not the best. We got the firewall smoothed out somewhat and everything under the hood painted a mat black with a mat clear for easier cleaning. Got the car in primer and mocked up painted all the jambs. At this point I was talked out of the small block that was in the car and we had a 396 built, it had to be bored .100 over to remove a bad score in one of the cylinders then the boys at Millars stroked it to a 496 and added some goodies, it was then sent to the guys at Sandale to run on the dyno 597.5 hp and 650lbs or torgue running on pump gas and a slapper cam (roller cam going in this winter) . With all those ponies the factory 10 bolt was not going to do so a 12 bolt 4-11 was installed along with UMI trialing arms and front disk brakes all thanks to another CP member MARSHALDUDE.
After the body and the motor it was time to look at the wiring in the car (should have done it much sooner), the wiring was all pulled out and an EZ kit was installed which for a rookie is not EZ lol.
Next was paint, and over this winter I will have to finish wet sanding and buffing as it was painted in my garage and there is some dust in the paint.
We are hoping to get to work on the interior this winter as well.
That has been the last 2 years - it's not a show car but it looks good, its not a race car but it passes everything I need it to except the gas station.

Carl I am by no means a motor expert but the way it was explained to me is that SOME of the early blocks were much thicker than the rest and could be bored out to a maximum of. 125. I was always under the impression that a 396 could be bored no more than. 30 over. I left the block with Millars and trusted there judgment, so far so good and it runs a constant 195 with the new rad, no overheating problems.
I hope they did a sonic test. Does he mention that on your invoice? If he did, he should be able to give you the specs. I'm curious. I have heard the same story about the early blocks being thicker. I've had a couple over the years but never had one sonic tested to see how thick they actually are.

When I began my project, I had an original block, so I was told when I bought the car in Alberta. However, I am sure you know the GM story of the 396 and the 402, which was the 396 bore from GM to .030 over.
Well , when I got around to doing my engine build, I did the micrometer reading and it ( the block) turned out to be a 396 with a + .090 bore , which actually was a 402 , +.060 over.
To summarize my block , between the # 3 & 5 cylinder walls had a sonic test measurement of 0.185, local machine shops would not bring the final bore to 4.25. ,
What was suppose to be a numbers matching rebuild came to a grinding halt.
Time for a little interior work over the holidays. We tore the old carpet out and discovered some tin work (for lack of a better description) once it was removed I found a nice "4 speed" hole. After that was all fixed up I blasted the floor and stuck down some sound deadner, new carpet and the new door panels that have been laying around the garage for the last year. Now I just need to figure out what to use for front seats and we will be good to go for spring.
