Rear sport antenna or no antenna?

Filled hole on front fender so I could run rear antenna. Now I'm thinking of running no antenna or should I say hidden antenna. Just wondering if you guys think car would look odd without an antenna? If I do run a rear anyone have a measurement to drill hole and a source for an antenna? 66 Canso. Thx Jim

I've run with a hidden antenna and just did it at first for the simplicity as the hole wasn't cut in yet but now I'm glad it is that way. And funny over the years I think I have only had one person ever comment about where the antenna was.

That one person pays more attention than me, look at your avatar everyday and never noticed. Must have thought it was one of those fancy ones that goes down when you turn off the key.

Personally I love a rear antenna on 60's cars, I think it adds to the look on exactly that era.

Either way would look fine. I also think if it has to have one it should only be on the back. Without would be nice and clean looking. People don't notice it's gone.

Jim, if you do put the rear antenna in you'll have the option to retro the antenna............or not. wink

A little photo assistance to help picture it. This is the 67 I had. Wrong colour but you get the idea.

That is the correct location, this car was original sheet metal and had a factory installed rear antenna.

Put in a power antenna, if you feel like no antenna, just retract it. If you feel like waving your coon tail, put it up and attach the tail....

Good idea Carl! Think that's the way I'm going to go, have that sport classic look or smooth look, depending on mood.smile

Just don't make the mistake I made in the early 80's. My 66 Grande Parisienne had a perfect factory power antenna. I was parked overnight on the street in Winnipeg and never retracted it. Some twit went out of his way to walk over to my car from his normal path in order to break off the mast. I couldn't find a replacement original and had to settle for an aftermarket antenna. Hard lesson to learn...

Lots of Twits out there! I now find myself going outside 3 times a night to make sure everything is locked!

Doesn't a power antenna work off the on knob of the radio?

Not in the 60's, at least on Pontiacs. They have a manually operated switch.

... so the knob behind the wheel operates it?wink

I vote for the power antenna. Dan (Lefty) has 2 rear power antennas on his car, if I remember right.

I am with Carl and Darryl, a rear mounted power antenna is the only way to go.
