Found this interesting, the Olds had an x-frame, but also has side rails. Unlike the Pontaic/Chev, which had no side rails.
Seems the Olds offered more side impact protection.
Guess its just an example of the safety concerns back then. ie. no concern
Here's one from a 1959 Olds. Olds clearly had a different floor pan than the Chevs and Canadian Pontiacs.
Seems that Olds got the best of both worlds - torsional strength from the X-frame, yet side impact strength of the perimeter frame.
Just thought this was interesting.
But I'm easily amused.
