Will this fit? My motor is a new 350 crate motor from 8 years ago, seems the solenoid is toast even though it was brand new, but I think those corrode easily with time, all help appreciated with this, Thanx
Just check your bolt holes in the block, should be Ok. Stuck a 400 SBC in one of my 65s and the block only had staggered holes so had to drill and tap the block which was no problem. The good thing about these starters they can be rotated to fit in if extractors are in the way. Bench test the old starter to be sure it is toast.

Great thanks for the reply, no garage here or concrete to jack the damn thing and still not sure whats really up, just thought I'd get an aftermarket starter and a new Optima yellow top and come April I could install it and that should do it, hopefully no drilling and tapping just install and arrange possible shims if needed, have headers so clearance is limited. Will wait a bit and then hit it with a hammer, could be enough to get it to run so I can back it out of it's covered spot.
Not sure if you've bought your Optima battery yet but might be worth asking the gang here what kind of luck they've had with them. I have had poor luck with them and the electrical guy I used to use just slammed them. Just a thought.

AC Delco Professional series batteries for the win!

was he not asking about a mini starter ?
Yeah but he included what kind of battery he was using with it. I think they are overpriced and overrated. Just good for specific applications.

They sell those at Crappy Tire ... check there first, they go on sale periodically.

Not a big Crappy Tire fan as they are inept and have had nothing but grief with them sadly, also I live far from anything like that but thanks for the reply.

Been using AMG / Optima battery's for a dozen years - those two old purchases lasted 9-10 years, in a few vehicles.
- went from red to yellow top, eventually / takes a discharge 10x better, and will recharge easier when older
But OPTIMA shut down USA operations, several years ago and moved all the jobs to manufacturing in Mexico / these new batteries are junk & very short warranty, now.
>> Best 12v battery IMO now, is from Canadian Tire / AMG with full 5 year replacement warranty...USA made by Exide, I think.
- got them in my truck, SUV and John Deere 318 garden tractor...couldn't be happier / like $189 minus $20 if on sale
If that CTEK battery charger works the way it says I won't need a new battery, this ones just been sitting so it could be fine, most likely my issues are solenoid related so the new starter should do it, will see what shape the battery is in when I get the new charger, not sure if the bolt pattern is right on this starter but it is a mini so it should clear the headers.
I used to sell them for local racers bought 5 sent 4 back bought 3 sent 2 back 96-Vortec starters will out perform them and you don't have to take them back
So lets see what kind of shape the battery is in? This should tell me ,decided to go with this as you can test the alternator and starting power with this one-
Battery tests fine now, so I guess the starter is pooched, was new when I stored the car, as is the motor, so would think it's just the solenoid, will hit it with a hammer later and see what happens? The starter not the solenoid.
Ive had success with GM truck starter off 96-98 350 Vortec engines Its a mini and fits nice
You can get one at local parts store
I have one on my 355 S10 and HAD one on my 355 Sunbird.....

So seems alot of people think these are good, I thought Vortec was a Dodge name? So I live in the boonies any idea what the # is off one of those starters, and it will fit my Chevy 350 crate motor? Thanks all help is appreciated with this as would like to pick one up and install it, but it needs to fit first time as I,m in somewhat of a time crunch.Likely I will have to wait for them to bring it in and needs to work when it gets here.

Buy a starter, a 96-98 Silverado 5.7L Vortec starter is the easist GM starter to add as an upgrade. Don't tell parts store you thought VORTEC was a Dodge
It is a mini Hi-Torque starter. Also buy the two mounting bolts as your standard Hi-Torque full size starter bolts are too long.
