Making up your own Fuel/PCV lines for 1963 283cu in.


Looking at my 283 motor in the 63 and  the fuel line from the carb to the fuel pump had been cut and a neoprene hose has been clamped

into the works,same with the PVC line going from the carb to behind the distributor.

Question is there a diagram available that shows all the twists and turns on making up a new line to replace them so they look "factory"?

I have the tools to make and bend my own stainless lines but not the dimensions  to make it look correct.  any help would be appreciated.

I think the pcv only had a small metal tube and then some rubber hose.

 

Something like this which is for a 4 barrel, but the 2 barrel should be the same.

 This is great Don, I saw the short piece of metal tube and thought it was cut, but I see now it wasn't.

Just need to install a new PCV and it looks to be okay.

 Terry,

I'll check locally for a pre bent tube first and prices of the different on-line suppliers.....

If I can't get a reasonable deal I'll come over and take a peek at yours.

It costs me nothing to make my own.  Thanks for the offer.

With the prebent lines, you need to be sure your line coming out of the fuel pump is "clocked" the right direction for the line you get. Mostly it needs to stay away from the lower rad hose so it doesn't get hot or wear a hole in the hose. If your fuel pump is not original, the line may not come out in the right direction. Maybe get a pic of Terry's fuel pump and line to compare it to yours and to the prebent lines you can buy?
I have done my line from the fuel pump to the carb, but its a 409 4 barrel, the carb fuel inlet is on the back on my AFB, quite different from your setup. I used a metal fuel line to just above the intake, then a short section of rubber hose and a fuel filter, then a metal line to the carb.

You guys are awesome....this will help a lot.....

Darryl.....how big are the tile squares on your floor? This will give me an idea for dimensions.

Terry, your pictures told me my Rochester carb isn't original (I suspected as much) so I'll have to consider that factor.

I think once I take off the portion at the fuel pump and at the carb, I should be able to figure out the section replaced with the hose.

Those pictures on and off the car will definitely help

Maybe also just lay a measuring tape next to it when you take your next pic?

Actually Don, it's like a elongated and twisted/clocked "Z" or "S". I put it next to my original/existing line and it matches.

Just twisting your tail Darryl. Having visited the Maritimes twice, I've seen exactly the type of people you are talking about and your comments on their generosity is 100% accurate. My wife and I both say if we ever had to move away from here, the Maritimes is where we would go.
